Cabela's rant
This is the second time they did this. On 4/2/09 I placed an order for some .223 bulk ammo. It was listed as in stock when I ordered it. My receipt even says 'this item is in stock'. But then about 5 minutes later I get an e-mail saying it's on backorder until the 24th. Ok, no big deal I guess since I had some. But then on the 24th, I get another e-mail saying it's again delayed until 5/27. Now it just happened that I had to make a trip to Austin yesterday and stopped by the Cabela's on the way and they had .223 coming out the wazoo. They also did the same thing with some 9mm I ordered, but at least with that, I can see it being a little more scarce. But .223 is everywhere now. Needless to say, I canceled both orders and will take my business elsewhere in the future.

Cabela's in Buda had a large supply of .223 on the shelf Sunday, April 26.

That's a good one. This whole ammo thing is definitely showing us which businesses to do business with in the future. This silliness is going to end at some point. When it does, we should all remember the places that have burned us during this time.

Yep, that was the one I stopped at. But yet they don't have any to fill their on-line orders, especially the ones that said it was in stock when the order was placed. That is the part that really irritates me.LaUser wrote:Cabela's in Buda had a large supply of .223 on the shelf Sunday, April 26.
Oh, and while I am in the rant mode, let's talk about Bass Pro and this gem:
"Your credit card will not be charged for these items until they have been shipped. If we are unable to ship your order within 60 days of when the order was placed, we will cancel your order. If this cancellation occurs, you will not be notified."
So basically they can just cancel your order with out any notification. Nice way to keep from having to honor older prices.

Re: Cabela's rant
Speaking of Bass Pro, I've been doing price comparisons between Bass Pro Grapevine and Cabella's Ft. Worth. Bass Pro is way higher on every item I've checked. For instance:
100 round 10mm/.45 ACP plastic ammo containers: BP $5.99. Cabella's $2.99
Fishing shirts average $10.00 less at Cabella's
I'm not crazy about either of these mega-stores, but out of the two, it's worth it to me to drive the extra 17 miles to Cabella's than to go to Bass Pro just three miles from my house when I'm in a hurry for a product that I can't find at the mom & pops.

Re: Cabela's rant
I noticed last weekend that Academy in Grapevine had .223 in those yellow UMC boxes of 200 rounds for $99.95. In fact, my son and I each bought a box to take to Elm Fork that day.tfrazier wrote:Speaking of Bass Pro, I've been doing price comparisons between Bass Pro Grapevine and Cabella's Ft. Worth. Re: Cabela's rant
I am still having a hard time spending more than $0.40/round for plain ol' FMJ .223.

I don't know if this is worth anything to anybody, but here it is:

I'll post it in that loooooong ammo thread too, just in case people don't read this one.

LOL. Bass Pro must monitor this forum because I just got a 'shipped' e-mail from them when just a few days ago I got my 3rd backordered notice.

Re: Cabela's rant
I only started shopping at Cabela's about 1 month ago and I started as I was able to order some ammo online and pick up at the Ft Worth store which is a 45-min drive away.
I enjoyed that experience so much, I bought more ammo from then and I also bought a new S&W M&P 9c from them this week. I also have some more ammo on back order from them.
Now I only wish the store was a bit closer to me!

Re: Cabela's rant
I'm in a similar situation - stuff I ordered two weeks ago went from "1-2 weeks backorder" on Monday to "4-5 weeks backorder" by Friday. As long as it comes in at the price I paid for it, I'm not going to sweat it too much.
Still frustrating to see the time get extended, of course.
