Abilene Reporter News Article

Just read in the ARN this morning a story our of Houston. It said that CHL applications last February were around 7,800. This February, they received close to 13,000. Guess that explains some of the problem, but still no excuse for the length of time. Happy waiting, I guess!!!!!

"The NRA has been trying to push this fear that Obama is going to start small and take away people's gun rights, which we all know is not going to happen," said Marsha McCartney, a volunteer with the North Texas Brady Campaign to End Gun Violence.
I almost feel sorry for her. She must be lonelier than the Maytag repairman out there in the cold, windy Panhandle.

The problem is, she's not alone, even in the panhandle. There are quite a few people on the Brady's side and unfortunately they have a fair sized voice with the current administration in Washington. While we may think she is spouting this rhetoric alone, we really need to watch who may be in the background waiting to emerge. If we don't continue to deploy pesticides, they can come out of nowhere like a bunch of ants and ruin our picnic. :banghead:

She is spot on. They can start big instead.

I just wanted to clarify. The numbers were statewide, not just Harris County. This time last year we did not have a Democratic President. Gun sales always go up when a Democrat gets in office (and recently, CHL applications.) Especially one from Illinois, with some really restrictive laws. I'm sure I'm in the minority here when I say I supported him.

I'm one of those truly loony people on this board. I like my guns and will defend my property, I think we need to pay more taxes (even though I hate it), make people take responsibility for their actions, women have a right to choose (as long as they're not stupid and didn't use BC in the first place), no bailouts for the irresponsible lenders or lendees, go away if you think you can tell me what to drive, quit making it harder for me to do things myself by regulating it.

I was privileged to have a college education, but I learned from many family members the value of work and the consequences of being lazy/indifferent/apathetic.

The best thing we can do for our children as PARENTS is to EDUCATE them about the WORLD and the dangerous things they might encounter. I never tried to shoot myself or anyone with a gun, I've never even accidentally pointed one at anyone, because I was taught better. I never got pregnant because I was taught how that happens (I had a 21yr old boyfriend at 15, don't tell my Grandpa). I never did drugs because I was taught about their effects. I didn't make a lot of bad choices because my family taught me instead of ignored me. They didn't leave it up to the school.

Parenting isn't a spectator sport...Teach and listen to your kids and they will do the right thing.
