(Note: The following is speculation in jest and by no means is intended to disparage the honor of the actual officer referred to in this thread)

With my luck it'll turn out he was in the back stock room with somebody else's wife and left his stuff in a hurry when they heard hubby arriving. I won't be able to show up in the same thread as Nitro for months.

Though I never saw this episode on DRAGNET, I'll bet stranger things have happened...haven't they?

I have to vote for mercy. We don't know the whole story of what happen. The scenario of the bathroom is the only thing that really makes sense and how many have made that mistake....at least he didn't shoot the toilet. Besides, can you imagine how he felt when he found his gun gone and realized what had happen!!

I am sure he is beating himself up more than what the DPS may have done to him. :grumble

Actually, I don't know that he broke a law. What law was broken? And before you say 46.13, I must point out that this law is not broken until a child actually has access to the firearm. And since the articles say it was found by a father and son, we don't know that the law was truly broken.

And for all of those wondering where it was left, I would bet it was in his shopping cart. People leave all sorts of things in the cart when they get their bags out, especially if they empty the cart at the check out but pick up the bags to walk out. I have left my checkbook in the cart, and I have lost count of the number of women's purses I have taken in like that. I don't know too many Dollar General stores with public restrooms.

And jbirds, don't worry about the mistakes. One day, after the statute of limitations expires, I will tell you about some of the dumber things I have done and not gotten caught at (yet). Some of the ones I did get caught at are also pretty good.

So, what you're saying is that they're overpaid? After all, the guy at the Whataburger driver through window gets all that and more for a lot less money.

That's about the most ridiculous response I've seen anywhere on this forum to date.

Well, it looks like you were right, Steve, regarding where the gun was left at.... :tiphat:
No Charges for Leaving Gun in Store

Updated: Thursday, 30 Apr 2009, 10:26 PM CDT
Published : Thursday, 30 Apr 2009, 10:26 PM CDT

Pflugerville Police say the DPS trooper who left his gun in a Dollar General shopping cart will not face charges. The gun was left in a bag along with the trooper’s badge and ID.

The case was presented to a prosecutor but the charges were not pursued due to a lack of evidence.

Then you don't know the meaning of the word ridiculous. Studies have shown that police do not have the horrible, dangerous job they claim to, and that several lower paid professions are far more dangerous.

Please cite said studies. I would be interested in reading the "studies" that prove I was not actually experiencing what I thought I was experiencing in real life for eight years and seeing what reliable sources they come from.

As Crossfire stated, no personal attacks guys.

And while a police officers job may not be the most dangerous of those out there, it was number 10 nationwide in 2007. (BTW, WhataBurger drive-through window guy or Stop 'n Rob Clerk didn't make the list, but garbage collector did.)

Being a police officer is not the most dangerous job in the world (that might be President of the United States, with nearly a 10% mortality rate due to violent crime in an average career of 5 years).

However, if you look beyond death on the job, LEOs have high rates of disability (mostly due to vehicle crashes) and mental health problems due to stress.

Given the high level of physical, legal, and moral risks, it's not a job I would take at twice the going rate.
