CHL does NOT get you out of a ticket

Ive proven this theory twice now, the latest was yesterday in Angleton on 288. Sure doesnt take those Chargers long to plow thru the median and catch up does it.....

I suspose the good news is that neither officer hasseled me about carrying, only one asked if I was carrying.

Some other places to slow down is 288 coming out of houston- watch for the dirt paths in the medians near the hills and the beltway feeder near cullen...

Was this Angleton PD, Brazoria County, or DPS? I live just on the north side of Oyster Creek (town and creek).

You are absolutely right...It does not give you anything but maybe a free bowl of soup somewhere, and I haven't found that place yet...

Residing yourself to the fact that you should get a citation, just because, puts you in the proper, mature frame of mind (attitude) when the inevitable happens...Just have "all" the stuff ready to hand to them, "Yes Sir/Ma'am, No Sir/Ma'am"...And you should be ok...

This has worked for me for years...And the fact that I carry has never, ever been any kind of issue spoken or not in any traffic stop I have been in since...

But if you have a body, or bundle of funny stuff in the trunk...We'all...I don't think much can help you there pard'...

As I mentioned in another post about three weeks ago, I was pulled over for speeding by the Pearland PD during the first week of April and, after validating my driver's license, CHL, insurance, inspection & registration, the officer simply told me to "slow it down and have a nice day." I was dumbfounded, given that the officer had previously told me just how much over the speed limit I had been travelling. (I am intentionally omitting the posted vs. actual speeds so as to avoid any unwanted criticism).

That part of 288 beween 610 and the Beltway has always been a speed trap coming and going.

I had my first taste of this recently going through Buffalo on my way home to Houston from Amarillo. That sure would be a long trip at 70mph, although the $157 fine I got will make me a little more careful in the future which I guess is the idea. One ticket out of three justified stops still isn't bad going though, although I have to say that the further out of 'town' I have been the friendly the encounters I have had with traffic cops have been. One guy actually made a joke with me regarding the new 'feminine' look of the CHL itself and of course as the polite, apologetic and compliant citizen I decided not to interject with a more modern view. Of course the irony is that the time I was ticketed was the slowest of the three times I was pulled. Luck comes and goes I guess

So YOU'RE the one my brother spotted the charger flying across the grass median was after! I was on the phone with him when he told me about it, the whole while snickering 'yep, that's why I have my radar detector on!', 'oh ya, then why do you keep getting pulled over?' Traveling on 288 around 518, pearland pd is almost ALWAYS out.

Okay jokes aside, I have to tell him all the time to slow down because he seems to get stopped frequently. He has gotten pulled over once since he got his chl by lake jackson pd and let go with a warning which he described as a very pleasant and proffessional encounter. I've had my chl about a year longer than he has and have yet to encounter LE but hopefully I get a 'proffessional' offficer as well! (I don't speed anyway)

And get run over? Seriously, they set a lot of limits rediculously(sp?) low. Try driving all day at the limit or lower and see how many accidents you almost have. I am not advocating recklessness but 10mph over in most situations is safe, as proven by the LEO who are allowed to do so.

Why do some folks think that having a CHL will get you out of a ticket? This is not the first one who has posted that had that thought or impression. The traffic code does exempt certain folks from the speed law, CHL is not one of them. Someone please tell me why folks think that due to having a CHL you should be exempt?

The belief is (incorrect as it may be) is that the LEO will view you as a good guy since you have no felony background and will feel inclined to just warn you. As someone who gets pulled over often I can say that politeness and respect will go a long long way. I get maybe 1 ticket every 2 years probably becuase I am not doing anything stupid and am polite. Or might be because I am old...

I am an ex cop, several considerations went into if I was going to write a ticket or not. One was the degree of the violation, if someone was doing less than 15 mph over and the attitude was good you got a warning regardless. Most tickets I wrote for less than 15 over were due to the attitude of the driver.

I do not expect the officer not to give me a ticket, but I have never received one and tend to pulled over about 6 times a year, not always for speeding, the nature of my job puts me in no so good neighborhoods at late hours I would definelty meet the suspicous vehicle standard! Anytime i am stopped I turn on all lights in the vehicle, I roll down all windows in the vehicle and place my hands on the steering wheel.
When the officer approaches I let him know that I am a CHL, I am packing and let him know exactly where the weapons are in the vehicle and then tell him, you are welcome to disarm me and take possession of the weapons if it will make you feel safer. Your safety is my primary concern. I have yet to have an officer disarm me, every single officer has thanked me for disclosing up front I had a weapon and where other weapons were and I have never got a ticket.
I know many here dont like the idea of having to disclose to the officer. But folks I tell you from lots of experience in this matter that the more you open up to the officer, the more concern you show for his safety, the more he is inclined to return the courtesy. And I always thank the officer for his service to the community. It may sound cheesy but most officers get griped at, when they find someone that appreciates them and shows it, they are grateful. I go so far as to anytime I eat at a restaurant where officers are eating I tell the wait staff to put their meal on my ticket. A little courtesy and appreciation goes a long long ways.
