PONTIAC, Mich., May 7 (UPI) -- Police said a Michigan concealed weapons teacher accidentally shot a student in the face during a demonstration.
Investigators said the 74-year-old teacher accidentally discharged a bullet from a .38-caliber Smith and Wesson revolver at about 4:30 p.m. Tuesday during a class in Oakland County, WDIV-TV, Detroit, reported Thursday.
The bullet ricocheted off a table and struck a 52-year-old student in the face. The student was taken to Troy Beaumont Hospital to receive treatment for non-life threatening injuries.
The teacher told investigators he thought the gun was loaded with plastic bullets.
Police said the shooting is being treated as accidental and no charges have been filed.

Yeah, you notice how they use the terms Teacher and Student, not Instructor, or some other non-school related term?
I think they're trying to show that "teachers" have no business being armed. how guns in classrooms is a bad idea.
"See? Look what happens when you have a GUN in a CLASSROOM, even with TRAINED PERFESSIONAL???"
just "their" subtel jibe towards us folk...

Re: Gun teacher accidentally shot student
My CHL instructor used an airsoft gun, which he checked, before shooting anyone in the face.

During the classroom sessions of my CHL class and others-- whenever the instructor (same guy for a few ) handled a firearm, he always racked the slide, opened it up ,locked it and showed it to two of the attendees asking them for a verbal OK.
When entering the classroom, he stood at a safe area before the door and required everyone to rack/check/close and click into a sand trap before entering the classroom.
Complacency will get ya every time....

I don't understand why a CHL instructor would want to use plastic bullets or airsoft in the classroom, but that's just me. It may have merit somewhere and I'm sure someone here can point that out to me but I don't see it.
