When police arrived, the shooter shot two officers. Police eventually shot him to death.
The wounded are expected to recover.

Thank God the wounded are expected to recover. The man MUST have been deranged, drunk or on drugs to go on a mass shooting rampage. I agree, there's much more that came before this shooting, for this maniac to do something that horrible.

I hope the anti-gun press doesn't go into a feeding frenzy over this. But I fear they will.

It has been ten days, and I haven't seen anything more on this.

Stuff like this happens every day. Go to http://news.google.com/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; and plug in the word shooting. You'll get thousands of results, and only a few on shooting movies. An incident seems to have to involve a police officer or multiple victims to be considered big news.

LEO's were shot Jim:

"When sheriff’s deputies came out to investigate, the man who shot the father and daughter began shooting at them. One deputy was hit multiple times and was flown to Carolinas Medical Center for treatment. He is expected to be released Friday.

Another deputy was hit in the arm. He was treated at a nearby hospital and released.

Deputies eventually moved in on the shooter, and more shots were fired, resulting in the suspect’s death. Sheriff's officials believe he was struck in the gunfire."

I'm honestly surprised that it didn't make national headlines that I'm aware of. And glad it didn't.

I know that. That's why I mentioned that aspect.

Probably it wasn't big news because only the criminal shooter died. Also, it happened in a place that is not on the radar of the national media. Compare that with the recent murder of the officer in Chicago.

How else do shots result in one's death? Heart attack?

That is rather clumsy writing.

I think maybe the person from the police department who talked to the reporter was using bureaucratic double-talk to avoid saying that the cops shot the guy. Sometimes people who are cornered that way shoot themselves.

Hurt wrote:This is one of my biggest concerns when my wife and I walk our dog. Our dog has been attacked in the past by dogs running unsecured while my wife had him on a leash (in Virginia). So now when we take him for walks I carry a small .22 (it fits very well in the pocket while wearing shorts).

I have had to draw twice due to dogs charging us. I always wait to shoot hoping the dog will stop in time so i don't have to kill it. One of the times the dog stopped and went back to its owner and he asked if I had mace. I told him what I had (I already drew it so no use pretending) and he said if I shot his dog we would have a problem. I ended up calling the police to have it documented. The officer who came out said I showed more restraint than she would have, she said she's been bitten before and would have shot it. :thumbs2:

I'm always afraid that if I end up having to shoot a dog its owner will do something similar to what was posted. I am now looking at larger guns knowing the situation could always come up.

Oh and by the way, I’m new here and hello! :tiphat:

Oh, and I agree on the caliber issue. A .22 is not the best defensive round you could have. Better it than nothing though.

Welcome to the forum, Hurt, we are glad to have you on board. :tiphat:

I feel like this must have been an on going feud between the neighbours and this was the straw that broke the camels back, of course, we can not rule out alcohol or drugs playing a major role in this situation. . I agree with the idea that the victim (cat owner) probably shot the dog with a shot gun and was out of ammo by the time the other neighbour (dog owner) came out firing.

I can't imagine what brought to neighbours to do something like this, but I do know this is a very horrible conclusion. I can not understand how someone could do something like this.
