FN FAL vs. FNAR ?

Hi All,

I am looking at getting a 308 autoloader and was looking at the FN FAL and the new FNAR. Anyone have experience with both ?
The pluses I see for each from research

FAL - abundant parts, especially mags, simple design, robust, well proven, has iron sights, piston driven, relatively low cost
FNAR - very accurate, current production, piston driven

Minuses:
FAL - older gun, not current, so not as well supported, not as accurate as the FNAR
FNAR - cost/availability of mags, heavy, cost

Any feedback on either ? I have heard great things about both.

I am not dead set on a 1MOA rifle (otherwise I might be more inclined to go bolt action), it was a consideration. I realize that unless I shoot it much more than I really think I will, then most rifles will outshoot my ability. I have heard that the FAL is a rock solid, very reliable weapon, but the new introduction by FN the 308 AR seems pretty rugged, though as mentioned, not too pretty (an ergo grip would be nice on that). Does anyone know how they compare weight wise ?

Don't forget the CETME or G3, lots of parts, cheap mags and you can bounch spent brass off your buddies head at ten yards

I recently traded a CETME rifle that I acquired in a prior trade. I really liked how tough the G3 design is. Like Andy said the FAL is a battle rifle. hot, cold, dirty, clean, old, new...it doesn't matter as long as its been maintained. They will run all day long and eat almost any ammo. If you want a fun rough rugged rifle then I would go with a FAL or GE/CETME rifle. If you are looking for an accurate hunting or precision target rifle I would go with the FN FAR.
