Probably not the smartest thing

Post by Originalist »

Ok before I get the.........You should of known better's. It was spur of the moment and I hadn't planned on riding any rides.

Ok, here it is.......I love my MTAC holster. Went to Sea World today and decided to ride steel eel (roller coaster - no loops) cause someone was scared to ride it alone. As we were in line I was concerned I might have an issue but once I sat down the seat was perfect for a 3:30 carry and pinched the gun tight against my hip. Got off the ride and "adjusted" to find the thing hadn't budged..... not one inch. Needless to say I am thoroughly impressed!

Heh. I love rollercoasters, but haven't been to one in a long time...however, no I probably would not pick one for my first high-G holster test!

When I got my CTAC holster, I did get down on the ground and roll around to see if I could shake loose my hi power. Stuck right to me...

Sea World? In San Antonio? Isn't that one of the places where CHLs are expressed prohibited? :rules:

I copied this into Word a couple of weeks ago from a thread that was going here:

12 - in an amusement park (county more than 1 million people and park is more than 75 acres controlled entries and is open at least 121 days a year and has security guards on premises at all times)

There's a thread up at the top of one of the major forums that lists no CC zones. I'm not sure how up to date it is though.

Just my 2 cents worth.

Amusement parks are also covered by subsection (i) requiring properly posted notice. Six Flags does (or did the last I checked), Sea World doesn't (or did not the last time I checked).

I was at Sea World last month, and there was no valid 30.06 posting. They had the generic "No guns" signs. My snubby rode in my pocket, nice and snug.

Ironically, when approaching the gate to enter, a couple was being told by security that they could not bring their cooler in. While they hiked back to their car to store the cooler, it came to me that Sea World is more worried about selling their overpriced food and drinks. They don't worry about customers who hold a valid CHL.

Right, and as I understand it, the verbage above applies to exactly two amusement parks in Texas: Six Flags in DFW, and Sea World. Other than these two parks, all other parks have to post 30.06 signs to prohibit CHL.

You have to read the whole Section 46.035:

Sec. 46.035. UNLAWFUL CARRYING OF HANDGUN BY LICENSE HOLDER.
...
(b) A license holder commits an offense if the license holder intentionally, knowingly, or recklessly carries a handgun under the authority of Subchapter H, Chapter 411, Government Code, regardless of whether the handgun is concealed, on or about the license holder's person:
...
(5) in an amusement park; or
...
(f) In this section:

(1) "Amusement park" means a permanent indoor or outdoor facility or park where amusement rides are available for use by the public that is located in a county with a population of more than one million, encompasses at least 75 acres in surface area, is enclosed with access only through controlled entries, is open for operation more than 120 days in each calendar year, and has security guards on the premises at all times. The term does not include any public or private driveway, street, sidewalk or walkway, parking lot, parking garage, or other parking area.

(i) Subsections (b)(4), (b)(5), (b)(6), and (c) do not apply if the actor was not given effective notice under Section 30.06.
...

I've stripped out the parts that don't apply so that you can see them mpore clearly, but unless they post 30.06 signs, carry away!

Six Flags gets you at the parking gate so even the parking lot is off limits. Sea World still does not have any valid posting. And I hope they never do, we already do not go to Six Flags!

Heh. Actually the front yard! But I live in the middle of 15 acres, so the neighbors were not unduly alarmed.
