Greatest Praise of my life.

Whether the need is great or small, there is power in prayer, especially when God's people raise their voices together.

Greatest Praise of my life.

Post by longtooth »

Hearing aids.
My hearing has been deterriating since I was about 30 or so. It has gotten so bad in the last couple of yrs that it was really effecting my ministry. One on one I am still fine looking at you. Telephone, certain pitch voices, general background noice & a quiet voice of any pitch, I just could not hear it.

I have always had roar, ringing & crikets, all the time, so aids that only amplify what I already hear only make it worse especially in a crowd or environment w/ several noises in different positions around me. To help me at all I have to have 2. Aids that filter some of the roar, ringing, & crikets then make me able to hear is all the money in the world to us.

About a month ago now a friend that I have known a long time said, Come by & I want to talk to you. OK. after visiting a while he told me where to go, get tested, & get what I needed. God has blessed them & wanted to share.

Got them yesterday. I heard birds for the first time in yrs. Hear & understand someone w/ several noises surrounding me. Listend & understood 2 people talking from 30 ft. in a parking lot w/ traffic. Turned my back to Barbara this morning at the breakfast table & told her to whisper to me.

:thewave Thank you Lord, I can hear. :thewave
:woohoo :thumbs2:

I am very happy for you. I have had some of the same problems that you describe. Where did you go for the proper equip?

That's great news LT, I have to get some of the same one of these days, 5 inch guns with cotton for hearing protection back in the 60s. At least the cotton soaked up the blood when the eardrum ruptured.

Glad it is working well for you!

My wife is just on the borderline of being hard of hearing, and will need one someday.
I also have a long history of hearing loss in my family, and am just starting to experience same, so I will be needing a good one in some years too.

The company is Starkey. They are the largest hearing research & aid maker in America. Learned this in my process. Dr. Humphries, an ear, nose & throat specialist here in Lufkin, provides a place for them in his office. From 3:00 - 10:00 yesterday & I cant tell anyone how good they are.

PM to you w/ # if you want to talk.

longtooth,

Congratulations! I've worn hearing aids since 1973, and they do indeed make the world more accessible and rich. It is very important to have them properly "tuned" for your particular loss - it sounds like you found a good audiologist to fit them. If you find yourself aggravated at loud places / clattering dishes in restaurants / being in a room with several conversations (and you can't follow any of them) - go back to the audiologist and describe the problem. Sometimes they can do nothing, but sometimes they can adjust the "filtering" and "compression" to make it better.

Congratulations again, and hang in there!

Regards,
Andrew

Congrats on the new aids, LT! I have long said, you can always tell an old shooter... you just can't tell them much, cause they can't hear you!

Just in case anyone is not aware - the NRA has a discount hearing aid program. Any NRA member or any family member qualifies for a free hearing screening every year and discounts on hearing aids. I used the program to get a significant discount on the latest technology hearing aids for my mother. It has truly changed her life!

Bobcat,
They have already done wonders for the filter & multiple conversations. I do have to have some more tuning done on them. The dishes & paper krinkle are the one I need right now. I am taking notes & doing many "tests' to see what I need. It is a new world.

Thanks Crossfire. I will use that link too. :thumbs2:

When the Mr. Starkey announced in an NRA Finance Committee meeting the discount program he was offering NRA members I was stunned. The discount was much larger than I would have imagined. He is truly committed to his company and equally committee to the NRA and its members. In many ways, he reminds me of the Potterfields and Brownells.

Congratulations, LT, on your new hearing aids. I know the feeling you are experiencing. My hearing has been bad ever since the Navy...dual 5" gun mount...we did not know what hearing protection was, and a whole lot of shooting since. It is a true blessing to be able to hear, only someone who has been there can really understand the joy of hearing a bird!! :hurry:

All guns have at least two safeties. One's digital, one's cognitive. In other words - keep the digit off the trigger until ready to fire, and THINK. Some guns also have mechanical safeties on top of those. But if the first two don't work, the mechanical ones aren't guaranteed. - me

Thank you Linda. I have contacted them & where I got mine is not in the net work but she is going to see if they will join & then give me the discount. Thanks. If they do join but will not give the discount I should get the free extended warenty & then the anual checkups that are in the program.
Thanks. I cant believe what all I hear.
