Robber With Knife Shot Twice, Killed

POSTED: Wednesday, June 10, 2009
UPDATED: 8:59 am CDT June 11, 2009

SAN ANTONIO -- A bakery clerk turned the tables on an armed robber and may have saved a co-worker's life in the process, police said.

According to police, a man in his early 40s walked into a bakery in the 1300 block of Saltillo Street and immediately raised suspicion.

Employees told police that when he walked in he looked suspicious, possibly intoxicated. He appeared to be waiting for other customers to leave, police said.

The employees' suspicions were confirmed when the man brandished a knife and demanded money. At one point, he walked around the counter and moved to stab a female employee, police said.

That's when another employee, who had gone to get a gun, shot the would-be robber once in the chest and once in the arm, police said.

The robber dropped the knife, walked out as far as 200 yards and then fell, police said.

No one inside the bakery was hurt. Paramedics took the suspect to University Hospital, where he later died. Police suspect he may have been on drugs.

Police said they do not plan to charge the employee who shot the suspect, saying that he was defending his co-worker.

The suspect will face robbery charges if he recovers.

I've never heard of somebody recovering from death. Good shooting by the clerk.

I was going to ask exactly the same question.

I know of only two that have recovered; Jesus and Lazarus, and there was divine intervention in both of those. Don't think this guy will get that privilege.

To stay on topic, sounds like a totally justified shoot. :thumbs2:

KABB - Fox

A "would-be" robber armed with a knife dies after getting shot by a bakery worker. It all started in the 1200 block of Saltillo yesterday at the Cinderella Bakery. Investigators say Robert Adam was found about 200 yards near an apartment complex on the west side.
They say the 29-year-old walked into the Cinderella Bakery with a knife, demanding money. Shortly after, one of the workers pulled out a gun and shot Adam in the chest. He managed to leave on foot, but collapsed a few blocks down the street. Adam was taken to University Hospital were he later died. Police say no charges will be filed against the bakery employee.

Guess the KSAT reporter was wishful thinking maybe? Not sure but the BG is now dead on 2 different news sites...STAY DEAD BAD GUY!!

Maybe they're just used to writing the whole "will face charges if he recovers" line at the end of anything that has "was taken to the hospital" in it?

That made me scratch my head too... where do they bury the survivors? :headscratch

In the story on the web site (at the time that I am posting this message), the phrase "The suspect will face robbery charges if he recovers" is gone.

The top of the article now says
POSTED: Wednesday, June 10, 2009
UPDATED: 10:45 am CDT June 11, 2009
Earlier this morning it said
POSTED: Wednesday, June 10, 2009
UPDATED: 8:59 am CDT June 11, 2009
The most likely explanation is that the original story said that the injured man had been taken to the hospital and would be charged if he recovered.

Then someone at the TV station learned that the man had died, and added that information without checking the rest of the story.

Then they noticed the problem and fixed it.

The intermediate story quoted above is pretty funny, though.

I have noticed this kind of editing many times now. Sometimes the original content and intent of the article changed. In this case, I think it was just a mistake.

Not only that but he got younger.

Original post " According to police, a man in his early 40s "

You post "They say the 29-year-old walked into the Cinderella Bakery with a knife, demanding money."
