Daisy Dot

Post by apostate »

While looking for ammo at Walmart, I noticed the Daisy electronic point sight on the accessories rack. I had seen them before but this time I decided to splurge and buy one. On Thursday, I mounted it on my new Charger and set out for ASC. It performed admirably on the plate rack and I'm going to leave in on the Charger for now. I may even pick up another for a different gun.

Sure, it has its shortcomings. The field of view is narrower than the 30mm red dot on my AR. The switch on the Daisy has only three positions - off, low, high. It does not appear to be especially rugged. On the other hand, it was less than $10. It's worth a shot if you enjoy rimfire plinking, especially for those of us who don't see the iron sights as well as we did at 14.

I have one of those floating around somewhere. I got it a few years ago for my paintball gun, but ended up taking it off because it made it difficult to compensate for the paintball's rainbow trajectory. The sight stood up pretty well but it's very easy to accidentally bump the switch on, and then find later that the battery's run down.

Try http://www.cdnninvestments.com/tasprepasibl.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; or the silver version http://www.cdnninvestments.com/tasprepasisi.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

It's only $20, and has a pretty good FOV and three brightness levels of red or green dot. The base reverses so it will fit either a Picatinny or a 3/8" dovetail. I don't know how it would handle actual recoil, but it does fine on my wife's .22 pistol. It can be hard to find the dot at first, but it forces you to bring the gun up to a proper alignment to see it, so maybe that's a good thing. Compared to the Point Sight on my 702 Plinkster, I'd say the dot is bigger, but not so much as to be a problem, especially for close-in stuff.

I have a Crosman red-dot sight that came with my 1077 (used). What it is best for is draining batteries. Actually, when it is working, with a fresh battery, and once you get it dialed in (as if you could keep it that way), it makes shooting the 1077 almost no fun because it's just way too easy. However I can see now that I am trying to take out grackels in the back yard that maybe being able to effortlessly make head shots at 10 yards would be a good thing.

I would splurge and spring for a "real" red-dot if you like it. The one from CDNN looks like a good bet. Mostly I would look for something that the switch is not easily turned on and one that allows fine adjustments to be made and locked down like a normal rifle scope.
