what's to see at the Saxet gun show?

Post by mr.72 »

For a guy who has a little extra money and may hit the Saxet show in Austin this weekend, what's the must-see thing?

I dig 9mm DAO pistols. The right used G19 or G26 might get my attention. If I saw an SKS or Saiga for not-insane money I might take it home. Likewise if I get my hands on a Kel-Tec SU16 I might decide I have to have that. I'd really dig a bolt-action 7.62x39 rifle, but have no idea what to look for there.

I guess the overwhelming number of responses reflects what's to see at the Saxet gun show. I went once last year, it was an interesting place to visit but there was nothing there that I couldn't get at the same price or less at a local business.

yeah I am thinking maybe it's not worth my while. But no local shops I know of have any SKS in stock.

The only times I go to the show are when I can't get some reloading supplies locally. Other than that......

You might try Gun Broker for an SKS. I only saw a few at the Dallas show and they were over priced. 400-500 if I am remembering right. Yugo SKS's were going for 225 before last November. I think they will get there again if bam bam doesn't try to make any restrictive gun laws.

SKS for $200 I might do. Not worth it to go to the gun show tho.

You couldn't find any SKS's at the first of the year except the gun shows or gunbroker. The reason was they were wanting $400 for the guns.

I've looked into this quite a bit for the last few years. sksboards.com is a good site for knowledge. Cabela's has them come in every once in a while for about $250 - 275. No one is able to tell you when they are going to get the next order. I've never seen them at Red's or other smaller stores.

SOG -- Southern Ohio Guns -- has them in stock and a local FFl can order them for you. They're a better grade than Cabela's and run $250 plus shipping and FFl fee. There are many other sites to check to see if any have rifles in stock. PM me if you're interested.

If you have a Curio & Relics FFL03, then you can order directly from SOG or an importer like Samco.

I've had an SKS on consignment at a local store for 2+ months and it hasn't sold with a list tag of $299 and a "I'll take $200" instruction. I guess it just depends on where you are...they have at least 3 others as well. Mine is a Norinco FWIW, and I have 8 boxes of ammo thrown in.

Yeah, the gun shows are asking ridiculous prices...but the shops aren't always better.

CDH :tiphat:
Went to the Austin (Saxet) gun show this morning. (( The place was busy and man, was it hot in there. No A/C and the large floor fans, they had staged around the building, just didn't cut it !! Running outta' paper towels to wipe tha' sweat off my brow, that ran me outta' there !) (( 5 bucks for entrance fee.))
Noticed afew SKSs Yugos M59/66, asking $395.00. Was the best price I noticed.
Wolf ammo, asking 8 bucks a box.
Found some M67 (brown box, 40 rds. on strippers) for 20 bucks at one table (no tax) and the same ammo was 23 bucks, plus tax at another table.
I like going there each month ( Beats mowing tha' lawn ) plenty to see and buy. Prices aren't nothing to write home about, but mostly, you can find what you might need !
Thought this note/post would help ya'
Thanks for being here.

If the exception of the old milsurp stuff, very little that you can't get locally at one of the dealers for the close or less in price, and they know you by name and remember you when you come back. The last several shows have been more ripoff than deal.

I'll go to Joe's (McBride's) if I want to see a new model and it won't cost five bucks.

I haven't seen anything but the same ole dealers with the same ole stuff in the last six or seven shows. You used to see normal folks with a couple of tables misc guns, at least. Used to be deals on mags and accessories. Guess they charge too much for a table. Sorry to hear about the lack of a/c. You sold me on not going for that reason alone.
