Looking for my first carry gun

Post by TxFig »

Ok, I don't know if this is the appropriate forum for this post or not. If it's not, I apologize in advance.

I have had my CHL for about 6 months now, but do not carry yet - for 2 reasons:

(1) I work at a public university where (thanks to the inability of our state house to pass the bill this past session), it is not legal for me to carry at work. :mad5 I can't do anything about this one yet (I am seriously considering running in my district because my rep, Fred Brown (r) removed his name as a sponsor of the bill. And I worked in his campaign in the past.... : mad5 :mad5

(2) I haven't had the money to get a good carry gun. This situation has now changed :woohoo
I am now looking for a Kimber Compact CDP II (in .45 of course). I know I can just order one from several stores, but the current 4 month wait just doesn't sound very appealing to me. I keep a good eye on gunbroker.com as well, but never seem to see what I'm looking for.

So.... does anyone know of one of these things laying around (perhaps from someone who lost their job and can use the cash)?

If you go to one of the larger gun shows and get there early, some of the bigger dealers may have one in stock. The price is usually better than you'll find at a store as well.

Kimbers are great I have one and like it really well, but if I'd had been aware of STI at the time I got it I might have chose a STI Escort instead. Pricing and quality are comparable. If you are interested in knowing more about them drop me a PM. A very good friend is a STI Master Dealer.

I have kind of gotten turned off on going to shows. Expensive to get in the door and the selection was "less than I had hoped for". Plus I wasn't all that impressed with the prices of what they did have. Given that Houston is a 2 hour drive and Dallas is 3 hours in the opposite direction, the risk/reward didn't seem worthwhile.

If what you have is a Compact CDP II, I could take it off your hands so you can get the STI... :biggrinjester:

Well I am not much for selling any of my babies and I believe it is the version before the CDP II. I may just have to force myself to get an STI as well. :fire

I'd love to help you look for one, since one of my favorite pastimes is shopping online for gun deals (call me crazy). I've always wanted a CDP myself but haven't gotten around to getting one. I fully plan on getting one soon. Are you very set on the compact CDP? Those are harder to find than ultras or pros, in my limited experience.
