Anyone know the existing and possibly the history of gun laws in Iran?
I knew some Iranians (under the Shah) while I was in the Air Force (Biloxi) and they were fairly cool, but we never discussed their homeland.
Anyone know if those folks are packin'?

I am going to guess that a theocracy would disarm everyone not in the government.
It can happen here.

On the other hand I have read somewhere I can't recall that guns have been such a mainstay of tribal life in that part of the world that it would be unthinkable for any male to be without a gun, at least in his home. Couple that with all the warfare thats been going on over there lately (since the fall of the Shah) and it would seem likely that guns could be had for a pittance, legal or otherwise.

IIRC, the Shah of Iran and the country of Iran were some of the best friends the USA ever had...pre-Carter. What any of Iran's current laws are now is a moot point as far as the USA and the current administration is concerned.

Asked a former coworker of mine, who was an ex-pat, who left in '92:
"Supposedly you could be OK to buy rifles or shotguns after filling out paperwork and having the local head of police (a sheriff I guess?) check your record I do not know if handguns are legal. I dont know anymore than that because I never wanted guns."

The guys I knew (post -Shah era) that lived stateside wanted to be called Persians.
They did not support the overthrow of the Shah and the term Iranian was objectionable.
