Carrying On Summer Vacation, Questions?

Post by 9mmGuy »

Hello all,
I will be traveling to Florida here in about two weeks. We will be driving through LA, MS, AL, and FL. While I know, we have reciprocity in these state and they should honor my CHL permit, are there any special laws or circumstances I need to know about while traveling through these states? Do I have to have the pistol on me at all times or can I conceal in my vehicle, like in Texas? We will be spending about a week in Florida. Once there can I carry like normal and are there any “30.06” equivalent signs that I need to be aware of? Also, my brother in law will be traveling with us in their own vehicle and plans to carry a pistol in his vehicle. He does NOT have a CHL permit, and does NOT ever plan to carry the pistol on his person. My question is, can he carry the pistol in his vehicle through these four states and can he have it within arm’s reach or does it have to be locked up in the vehicle?
Thank you in advance for the help, 9mmguy.

I do know that in Louisiana, you can not carry in a restaruant. So when your hungry in that state, keep moving till you get to a safer state, like Alabama. I made the same trip you are going to make, and I had no problems carrying every single place I went to. It was grand! It is how it should be...except for the Louisiana thing...

In reading through the Lousiana information on carryconcealed.net it appears that you can carry in a restaurant, just not in one that sells alcohol. That means Mickey D's would be ok, but TGI Fridays and Hooters and such would be off-limits. Below is the quote taken from carryconcealed.net.

(10) Any portion of the permitted area of an establishment that has been granted a Class A-General retail permit, as defined in Part II of Chapter 1 or Part II of Chapter 2 of Title 26 of the Louisiana Revised Statutes of 1950, to sell alcoholic beverages for consumption on the premises.

Enjoy your trip. We're going to be making that drive this fall. We're going to Cape Canaveral to attend the launch of my father-in-law's ashes into space.
