Potter, Randall, & Carson county discharging a firearm?

Post by jack010203 »

I am looking at moving to the surrounding area in Amarillo, I am looking for something outside of the city limits. Does anyone know of any restrictions on discharging a firearm on private property in these three counties? I am probably looking at something under 10 acres, so the county will be able to place restrictions. I have called all three sheriffs' office and all told me I would be ok as long as it was done in a safe manor. Where should I check to see if these restrictions exist, if they do? does anyone have any first hand knowledge about these counties?

I live in Potter county and my neighbor was called in to the police once for discharging a firearm on his 1 acre lot outside of the city limits.

County mountie came and checked it out. Officer told him as long as he wasn't shooting at people or across property lines that he was within the law.

Ive shot in my backyard a couple times to test a gun and no problems.

Im currently looking to move to Carson or Armstrong county to avoid property taxes in Randall or Potter.

Carson county should be fine as well. There's only 1 town in the entire county of any size, Panhandle, TX.

I had a similar situation in Johnson county. not sure why counties can't be more clear when the State differs to them. You're probably fine but it couldn't hurt to call Potter County Attorney's Office to see if they have an opinion (if they'll be willing to help that is, an attorney to give free advice?) :???:

Happy And safe shooting.

Grew up in Randall county. Never had problems shooting on our own land. Don't think there are any restrictions.

The City of Amarillo has a nice range west of the City.

The Amarillo Rifle and Pistol Range is North of the City.

The Lets Shoot Gun Club has a nice indoor ranger in the City.

The Panhandle Gun Slingers has an indoor range on Georgia St.

Lots of places to shoot in Amarillo.

Thanks for the heads up on the ranges, but I am moving to the country for reasons other than shooting, and thought it would be a nice perk. It has however been pretty hard finding homes in the country that are not too close to a major highway, but ill keep looking, thanks again for all the help guys
