They need to be picked up as well. Particularly on lands where corn is used to feed any kind of animal, both livestock and game animals can and will eat the brass cases and shotgun hulls!!!
Back when I lived in LA I used to go to those sites. I wonder if the one in Frazier Park is still going? That was a lot closer so we went there most.
Anyway, we'd casually save anything that seemed like it might be fun to shoot that was going to get tossed anyway: vacuum cleaners, computers, bottles...whatever. We did, however, always always ALWAYS take everything we brought with us including all the small pieces. As long as you're willing to keep it clean, I see nothing wrong with this. As a matter of fact, its a lot of fun! :) It really is too bad that not everyone that would shoot would also ensure the place is cleaner when they leave than when they got there and hence these places are all but gone :(

I heard that it was closed too, but I've never shot there, and I couldn't tell you for certain. Frazier Park sure is pretty though, isn't it? And there's some great mountain biking to be done thereabouts too. I have several friends who live right in that area.

When I lived there we would go shooting in an area in San Bernardino if I recollect correctly. Some of the best shooting fun of my life. We would do nutty stuff like try to shoot pistols 200 yds and other nonsense. Where I learned to shoot really. Plus there was a place that sold the best biscuits and gravy on the planet - yes
