If you're unaware of it, there's a blog that has been compiling a pretty exhaustive list of incidents where civilians have used firearms in self-defense. It started in 2003, and tallied over 4000 accounts in April. It's updated quite frequently, and has statistics based on a lot of different dynamics.

That's where I started. Mr. Cramer blogged for some help with compiling some names from it, and I went on and researched some of the accounts to see "where they are now."
