In the case under discussion here, let's consider what the homeowner accomplished:

- 3 clearly lawfully justified shots under extreme life threatening circumstances
- 3 hits on dangerous, moving, attacking targets
- immediate cessation of the threat followed by the retreat of the attackers
- almost immediate arrest of the felons during a police response requested by the bad guys themselves

This is a 100% score in my book.

Just about a perfect result as could happen.

Heck, a perfect shot with a fancy defensive round won't always even achieve a stop in time to do you any good.

The fact that it will no doubt get the bad guy's attention at some point may not be much consolation to you if he got to finish what he was trying to do when you shot him in the first place.

THROUGH the door or if the door was OPEN when she fired.
If the door was closed it would have absorbed some of her rounds'
energy.

As far as shot placement goes, bad guys are much more active
than targets at the range. People try to avoid getting shot with movement.

She shot 3 times. She hit 3 times under stressful circumstances.

She did well to set up behind a locked door, she did well to shoot, she did well to get 3 hits.

This says to me that the hits were not "stopping" hits - the guys were probably startled and instictively ran when they encountered gunfire; the woman is lucky that they weren't prepared to press home their attack.

To me it says they were, once hit they stopped what they were doing and vacated the premisis, to me, that stopped the threat. Stopping the threat doesn't mean that the BG falls to the floor in a bloody pool, it means that the BG stops doing whatever it is that they are attempting to do, be it by leaving or by becoming incapacitated.

You may have a point that she was lucky they decided to run instead of pressing their attack. But, the opposite is also true. They may be lucky she let them run. Based on her tactics and presence of mind, I think that she would have kept shooting if they had kept attacking.

She achieved what she wanted by shooting. They stopped the attack. She was probably most concerned with this fact and less concerned with how seriously they were injured. I appalud her for this.

I would have no problem if the bad guys had been hurt worse, or even died, but I also have no problem with this result. In a couple ways, this is a better result than a fatal shooting.

First, and most important, is that she does not have to live with the thought that she killed someone. Even when the person deserved to be killed, it can affect people in bad ways. The average good person is taught that we should not kill (remember how you were taught the Ten Commandments?) and going against this training is traumatic. We know in our minds we did the right thing, but in our hearts and subconscious we still know we did something wrong.

Second, the bad guys will be in prison and telling people how they got there. This will help make criminals aware that Texans are willing to shoot to stop crime. This may help one or two make the decision to go straight. This is a good thing in my opinion. We may never get some people to respect the law, but we can get them to fear the consequences of violating it.

A happy and mentally healthy survivor who can live with herself and continue to enjoy life, and a couple of miscreants telling their tale of woe to all their prison mates beats the theoretical "benefits" of a couple of dead intruders any day.
