Manufacture date?

Post by Kevinf2349 »

Is there any way of telling when a firearm was manufactured from the serial number?

I am more interested for insurance than anything else. My shotgun has no indication on any of the paperwork I got with it to indicate when it was made.

Any suggestions welcome.

Yes, you can track down the date of manufacture based on its serial #.

Several manufacturers post that data right on their website. Some don't and you have to write them.

What's the make and model #?

Thanks Joe817

I have sent an email to the manufacture (Mossberg) and am awaiting their reply. In the past they have been very helpful so heres hoping.

Thank you again.

This has helped me for Colt.

Scroll down and you will find manufacturing dates for several manufacturers. Mossberg isn't one of them unfortunately but there are a bunch of others.

Good Luck.

TD, many thanks for posting those url's. Gosh I wish I would have had those during my collecting days. I spent soooo much money on books that contained that kind of info.

(sorry for hijacking the thread....just needed to quickly say that)

Joe

Sorry for my slow reply, but Mossberg got back to me within 3 days with more information than I requested. :thumbs2:

They almost told me who boxed it up! :rolll
