because i'm gathering that its saying a 9mm may be as effective as a 45 caliber ,
and i specifically chose a 45 caliber for the superior stopping power that it possesses .

i guess what really makes me mad is that i can't understand what all those numbers mean.

Not sure if you are being facetious, but I was curious myself so:

The units of energy above are rather arbitrary. A 230 grain projectile traveling at 850 fps has approximately 500 joules of kinetic energy, which is enough energy to make a 60 Watt light bulb glow for about 8 seconds. The 125 grain projectile at 1220 fps will make a 60W light bulb glow for about 9 seconds.

It would take about 2250 rounds of .45 or 2000 rounds of 9mm to equal the amount of energy you would get from eating a 2 oz Snickers bar.

And these examples are perhaps every bit as useless in making a decision on caliber as any other argument or example on caliber.

I don't even know what stopping power is. The numbers mean that there is more energy in a 9mm than a .45 caliber. But there are no magic bullets, the .45 with a certain load may very well be the best round for certain circumstances or maybe even most. While it has a lot going for it, other types of ammo have their own unique advantages. A good case cane be made that the 9mm is the best choice or even any of the other common choices. Every Caliber choice, gun decision, and ammo choice is a compromise. There is a religious fanaticism surrounding the .45 caliber that I will never understand. It always makes me giggle when I see the "it couldn't be a .45" on these types of reports.

Totally makes me want to stop eating Snickers...

When you say 200 Calories.. thats just a number to me.
But putting it in terms I understand... thats a different story "rlol"

I think nutrition labels should be adjusted to explain everything in 'rounds of 9mm'

Wow.. According to your '500 joules per .45 230gr FMJ' above...

a 10oz Steak is equivalent to 7,213.216 Rounds of .45ACP FMJ!!

... Forget shooting at BG's... just throw steaks at them! "rlol" :rolll :

While it is true that F = ma, you have multiplied mass times velocity, which is momentum, not force.

The other theory is that kinetic energy (KE = 1/2 mvsquared) is the parameter that determines the level of damage.

In that case you have

.5*230*850*850 = 83,087,500
.5*124*1220*1220 = 90,792,400
.5*118*1220*1220 = 87,815,560

giving the advantage to the 9mm

Thank you that was the one I was trying to find.

Note to self:

Call Springfield Armory and tell them they can get a jump on the
other makers by coming out with an XDM/Snickers model.

I'd think the .50 would have a bigger following. I'd find a way to carry one if I had the money to buy and shoot one. :thumbs2:

Marketing a handgun as having the stopping power of a full Milky Way candybar just doesn't do it for me.
