Austin Gun Show

Post by Bob Landry »

I had forgotten why it's been 3-4 months since I've attended the Saxet Gun Show in Austin. I'm reminded today.. What a waste of $5, time & gas. Same trinket dealers, same gun dealers with their "rare" overpriced firearms, and overpriced ammo vendors still selling 1K primers for $50, and even sadder is the fact that people were buying them.. Simply unbelievable..
The one dealer from Klute who always has the best selection and the best prices wasn't even there. I guess he got fed up with it. Today was my last visit..
Oh, I forgot.. There was the usual assortment of black/plastic pistols..

Hmmm . . . I was going to attend the show, but something else came up (had to repair the ballcock in one of my toilets) and I didn't make it.

Sounds like I didn't miss much . . . $50/K for primers? Crazy . . . MidwayUSA has them for around $30, which is still up sharply from just a couple of years ago.

How were the crowds at the show? Has any of the Obama rush abated?

Bob ... :tiphat: ... Hank !
Well, excuse me in one of my last post ... 'bout not going to Saxet//Austin gun show, because the lack of air conditioning in their building.
Deciding to get a ride in, I jumped on tha' Wing and ran on down, knowing there would be a good deal on some 7.62x39 ammo and a ballistic gun case for a evil black plastic AR. "rlol"
Seemed attendance was down this morn. or everyone got a late start like me ( 10-11 am) The NRA booth was pro-active. all the air conditioning fans where on and pointed at the vendors ... felt some air conditioning in the building, but with all the hot, large bodied people, it left very quickly. "rlol"
21 bucks, plus tax for imported brown boxed ammo .. ( oh well, at least it had STRIPPER CLIPS ).
One table had a rifle case for 40 bucks, but down the aisle and over one, the same case was 20 bucks ... SCORE !!
Silly me for not remembering the length of my Yugo M59, table guy says ... heck yes, tha' Yugo will fit in the 38" case .... not the 36 incher.
Long story short ... IT DON'T FIT ! "rlol" The standard Yugo is six inches longer ! DUH !!! I should've known that ... it's my gun ! "rlol"
I did stop and ( drool) check out a DPMS sports 16" ... was $730.00, ...... MAYBE, I should go back there tomorrow pick one up ?!??????
I'm just not feeling tha' love.... I can find the same stuff and prices outside of the local gun show ! Hmmmmmmmm !!
Thanks for being here !

I hadn't been to the Saxet show since they were over on 290E.

Went yesterday and came away with the same impression. However, I have been lookin' for decent deals on a Ruger SR9 and a Kahr CW45. Saw an all black SR9 on a Hewitt, Texas dealer's table for $429.95. Went back today and bought it. He had the 2-tone model for $399.95.

I like some of the polymers, but my Springer GI .45 stainless is a favorite...along with my Ruger SP101 .357.

Can't have too many carry & defensive options.
