CHL Classes

Post by kesslerpatrick »

I need to complete the Texas, Utah, and Florida CHL. I need a point of contact for the Houston area who can help me complete the classes. i would like to take them all at one time and from one instructor. i have looked on line and not found anything.

I will be doing a Texas CHL class on Saturday, Aug. 1st from 8am to 6pm and a Utah class on Friday, Aug. 7th from 6pm to 10pm, both at PSC in Friendswood. If you take the Texas class, a copy of your training certificate will work for Florida, unless something has changed.

I don't know if anyone in the Houston area that does Texas and Utah in one class. That would be 14 hrs and Utah requires instructors doing that to conduct the Utah class first.

Charles - just to confirm - I took my Texas CHL class on 5\5\07 - I now have my Texas CHL and, from the class, I have a HANDGUN PROFICIENCY CERTIFICATE - is this the document that I need to provide when applying for a Florida CHL?

BTW - the specs as far as "trainin with a firearm" thatFlorida needs are on page 3 here- http://www.doacs.state.fl.us/onestop/forms/16036.pdf" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Thanks!

Joe

It's been so long since I got a Florida license, I'm not up on their current requirements. I doubt they have changes, but I'm not sure. If nothing has changed, then a copy of your Texas TR-100 will be fine. I got mine before CHL passed in Texas and Florida accepted a copy of my IDPA card.

Thanks, Charles.

The FL CCW license is relatively easy to get - I'm going for it mainly as a backup in case something happens to my TX plastic. I was thinking about getting the UT license, but IIRC it requires a course taught by a Utah certified instructor. Any CHL's from other states that it makes good sense to have? Thanks again!

If you don't need the extra 2-3 states Florida gives you, it might not be worth the money. The Florida renewals are expensive too.

If you have a Texas CHL and want a backup in case it's lost/stolen, or if renewal takes a long time, the Pennsylvania license is cheap and easy to add.
