...These days we are hearing a constant mantra of "The police are out gunned . . ." which leads me to a video from the 70s, when the police in California were shooting it out with the Symbianese Liberation Army, and they were pretty state of the art then.

How did they fall so far behind?

Did they trade all of their modern guns in on flintlocks?

Is it really that much of an arms race?
...and 20 years later, the same LAPD was outgunned by TWO shmucks with AKs in at the Bank of America in North Hollywood. I used to work just a few blocks from where it happened. It was a local gun store owner, loaning AR15s to the frantic LAPD officers, who helped to turn the tide of the battle. I am not impugning the valor of the officers involved. They ran toward the sound of gunfire. But the reality is that, on that day, they were outgunned by two guys with three AKMs, two 9 mm Beretta 92Fs, a .38 caliber revolver, one HK-91, and an AR-15. They also brought along 3,300 rounds of ammo for those weapons. Most people only know about two of the AKs and one pistol – because that is what we see on the videos - but these guys came loaded for bear, so to speak.

Ten officers and seven civilians were wounded before both robbers were killed. Nobody really gives a rip about the robbers being killed. They made their own fate. Incidentally, Emil Matasareanu's mother lived around the corner from me. She was a piece of work too. The acorn does not fall far from the tree.

Anyway, I'm not agreeing with Senator Feinstein that the answer to outgunned police is to disarm the populace. But it would be factual to say that there are some really bad people out there, and sometimes, they have the cops outgunned; and we ought not to be sending officers into harms way without giving them whatever they need to prevail in the situation.

OTH, in order to ensure that authorities are not so heavily armed that they feel empowered to oppress with impunity, We The People ought to be equally heavily armed.

Now, if we can just convince our wives...

If they were outgunned it was 100% because of department policy and 0% because of federal gun laws.

It's interesting you bring up the North Hollywood shootout. If Senator Die and VPC had their way, private citizens (i.e. the gun store) wouldn't have those rifles. So the cops wouldn't have been able to borrow them.

How many more people would be murdered that day if Senator Die was able to disarm the good guys like she wants.

I agree. Any weapons legally carried by individual government employees the the US should be equally available to all adult US citizens without a criminal record (or no worse of a criminal record than any of those armed government employees.)

Troops deployed overseas may need grenades and other weapons in a combat zone that we don't want on American streets, but any gun/knife/club/chemical/explosive carried by American police (including SS, FBI HRT, SWAT, etc.) or national guard soldiers should be available to American citizens. If "the people" don't need certain weapons, then the civil authorities don't need those weapons either.

My comment was meant to be taken as ironic in the extreme. Somewhere back there someone decided that the police being armed with state of the art weaponry looked too mean and they started special weapons teams so the the public wouldn't have to see those nasty weapons, and now they complain about how they are outgunned. It's people like DiFi who pressed to get the firepower removed from the cars, and it's people like her that now want to press that "outgunned" thing.

As slanted as the story was, did anyone read the comments at the end? The first was a fellow gun owner calling the story, as has been done here, a sham. Then some anti named Timmy (with his YouTube videos) goes into a rant about the NRA and gun locks and lawsuits against the NRA and members when people commit suicide by gun.

Sometimes you just gotta say "What, where did that come from?" and move on. :txflag:
