This article is authored by Greg Abbot, Texas Attorney General. This is the first I've seen of it, and thought I'd pass it along. I have to admit, I felt a little bit of pride swell up in me when I read this. We who live in Texas, sometimes forget how fortunate we are that our State Government, shares our views(with exceptions, of course)......
"Last week, I filed a brief on behalf of Texas and 32 other states, asking the court to clarify that the Second Amendment applies just as much to local and state governments as it does to the federal government. At issue are local ordinances that ban handgun possession — even in the home for self-defense."

This further exemplifies the need for us to support the TSRA. Thank you TSRA!

Re: Second Amendment Applies to Local Government
There are 33 States now .
These are the States signing the brief:
BRIEF OF THE STATES OF TEXAS, GEORGIA, ALABAMA,
ALASKA, ARKANSAS, COLORADO, FLORIDA, IDAHO,
INDIANA, KANSAS, KENTUCKY, LOUISIANA, MAINE,
MICHIGAN, MINNESOTA, MISSISSIPPI, MISSOURI,
MONTANA, NEBRASKA, NEW HAMPSHIRE, NEW MEXICO,
NORTH CAROLINA, NORTH DAKOTA, OHIO, OKLAHOMA,
PENNSYLVANIA, SOUTH CAROLINA, SOUTH DAKOTA, UTAH,
VIRGINIA, WASHINGTON, WEST VIRGINIA, AND WYOMING.
Two-thirds of the nation’s attorneys general have filed an amicus brief asking the U.S. Supreme Court to grant certiorari in the case of NRA v. Chicago and hold that the Second Amendment applies to state and local governments through the Due Process Clause of the Fourteenth Amendment. This bi-partisan group of 33 attorneys general, along with the Attorney General of California in a separate filing, agrees with the NRA’s position that the Second Amendment protects a fundamental individual right to keep and bear arms, disagreeing with the decision recently issued by a three-judge panel of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit.
Maybe we can convince more States to sign. Maybe 40 States? 48? That could get some attention!

That's what I figure too. Maybe I misread the 2nd Amendment, or the Attorney General means that it kinda applies to states and local government.joe817 wrote:Sorry Charlie, not in our lifetime.TxRVer wrote:I guess I can start carrying in Texas without a license.
