Re: Gun-related television programs
I think "Mail Call" died a natural death, they ran out of subjects, plus R.Lee ran out of time to answer letters about his screw ups. Admittedly, his show had less screw ups than say, "Tales of the Gun" but he still had plenty. I hope the new show is above History's usual level of accuracy.

good stuff for the most part, but i could not stand the host / narrator. All I can ever find on the outdoor channel is fishing…Cosmo 9 wrote:"Future Weapons" but I think it's all reruns now.

they really shouldn't have Larry from Midway do his own commercials...
if I see Jerry Miculek hold up a smoking hand one more time....
"real. Accurate. deadly." blah blah blah "Lame. Advertising. Schtick."
I wonder if the American Rifleman, Shooting USA, et al show people get free guns and/or ammo for their writeups. almost as bad as the magazines!
Best Defense is kind of a branch off of PDTV. American Guardian is just a hour hour advert for either some gadget, gun, or school.
my favorite two shows are PDTV (personal defense), and Shooting Gallery. I like both hosts quite a bit, and Shooting Gallery is the one show that goes around to different stuff (the Knob Hill full auto shoot is one of my fave episodes. that, and the hollywood guns one, too.)
I wish they'd get rid of Jim "I hate EBR's" Zumbo's OutDoors, which is obviously in a world different than reality....
FWIW, IIRC, AFAIK, FTMP, IANAL. YMMV.
Re: Gun-related television programs
All of that stuff may be true - depending on your point of view - but I for one am very pleased that we have these shows and they haven't been shut down! I am not a fan cowboy action shooting (I appreciate and support the sport just no interest in participating) but I would hate to see the show go away!

I totally agree CV, well put. It exposes the non-gun enthusiast to what is an enjoyable sport, and a bunch of other things too. And the more exposure pro-gun programs have, it diminishes the unfavorable image some people have.CompVest wrote:All of that stuff may be true - depending on your point of view - but I for one am very pleased that we have these shows and they haven't been shut down! srsly, you bring up a good point. I like the competitive shooting they show on Shooting USA. It's kinda nice to actually see in action some of these names that folks(magazines) throw around all the time. not to mention you get to see how the stages look that "the pros" are shooting.
*I stand by my Jim Zumbo comment, however*

It's funny, but I actually enjoy most of the commercials on these channels. I get to learn about the plethora of products out there plus I've come to find that bow hunting looks like something that may interest me!DoubleJ wrote: or as I like to call it, Advertisement Hour(s)!
This is the ONLY channel where I actually pay attention to the commercials, although it sometimes seems as though the shows themselves are one big commercial.

Re: Gun-related television programs
all except for the Taurus Judge one with the watermelon heads.
I mean Really??? exploding heads?
hmmmmmm.
I clown on this stuff cause I watch it so often, some of the cliche's really stand out. Like the old guy cleaning his glasses (cause his eyes are bad), and he talks about the CTC Laser Grip. notice when he unholsters, he takes out the mag, but I don't think he racks the slide.... Hmmmmm
all in good fun.

Re: Gun-related television programs
If we're airing pet peeves regarding gun shows mine is with "Guns and Ammo".
The same pounding, overly loud, awful music used to introduce every segment is insufferable.
Of course, many of our outdoor shows have heavy metal or some variation of it as part of an unnecessary sound track.
I think most outdoor shows would be improved by removing the sound track. Why does anyone think it necessary to begin with? Of course, in America it's a rare business that doesn't have blaring music assaulting your peace of mind. Including overly loud TV's in clinics and service lounges of every kind. (apparently Americans get nervous if given some relative peacefulness - hey, we don't want no thinking going on...)
What's wrong with quietly going about shopping? Heck, you might even stay longer if given a moment to think in relative silence...And who needs to be tormented with a squawking TV while waiting for your oil to be changed or whatever?
Now, get off my lawn...!

Re: Gun-related television programs
I so agree about the music everywhere. It would be bad even if it was music I would choose to listen to. I think it is another of those just because we can doesn't mean we should things.

If you haven't checked in a while, American Rifleman began new episodes the first week of July. Some have been pretty good.mr surveyor wrote:every wednesday night is "range night" on the outdoor channel for 4 hours! (re-runs now)

Revet wrote:Gunny Ermey has a new show on the History Channel: "Lock N' Load." The next episode (topic is machine guns) airs this Friday night.
Then they repeat last week's show.
Note: about 12 hours of "Mail Call" repeats will precede the new show starting at 7AM Friday (on Charter Cable DFW). The History Channel often airs firearm-related programs ranging from great marksmen to historic gunmen.
Now drop and gimme 25!
