percentage of chl's in Texas
Does 1.2% sound about right? Any ideas? My math is not what it used to be.
Re: percentage of chl's in Texas
Sounds about right, but closer to 1.3% if you round out, based on latest DPS numbers, which is 12/31/2008.mred wrote:Does 1.2% sound about right? Any ideas? My math is not what it used to be.

Re: percentage of chl's in Texas
I actually came out with 1.2931 . Thats not bad for a state overall, is it?
Re: percentage of chl's in Texas
That's about right as a percentage of the total population that has a Texas CHL. If you want a percentage of eligible adults, it's more like 3%.
Then there is the unknown number of Texans who have a CHL from another state.

seems like the number would be higher .
just goes to show CHLers and future CHLers are in an elite group .

Jim, is this calculated as just those over 21??
Or is it 3% of population
minus under 21
- noncitizens

i think so .GlockFan wrote:Do y'all think the number of chl's would go up if the fees were lower?
i know a few people that say the cost prohibits them from getting it .
..gun

+state fee
= $$$$$
but with anything else , if you want it bad enough , you can make it happen .
even if you do it in stages .

Re: percentage of chl's in Texas
A while back, someone tried to calculate the number of adults over 21 who were citizens or permanent residents. I can't find it now, but CHL holders were about 3% of that group.longtooth wrote:Jim, is this calculated as just those over 21??seamusTX wrote:That's about right as a percentage of the total population that has a Texas CHL. I doubt the number who are ineligible for other reasons is known.

It may just be a coincidence, but the last time I looked at the numbers League City has the highest percentage of CHLs in Texas. Or maybe you work in a gun store.Kevinf2349 wrote:Goodness what does that say for the place I work!?

Re: percentage of chl's in Texas
I think they would go up maybe one percent. A much larger percentage of people already have guns so that part of the cost wouldn't be an issue for most.USA1 wrote:i think so .GlockFan wrote:Do y'all think the number of chl's would go up if the fees were lower?
