If a post office doesn't have a 30.06 sign...

Post by 03Lightningrocks »

is it still off limits to a CHL holder? I went to the PO at Hedcoxe and Coit in Plano today and could not find the 30.06 posting anywhere. If it was there, it was hidden somewhere. I even stopped at the entrance and looked at every window around the entry. :headscratch

It does not appear to violate Texas law.

Federal law is a different kettle of unconstitutional fishiness. Like COE lakes.

Yep. Don't go there carrying. I have never seen a 30.06 sign at the post office. But they all have a little gun buster decal on the doors with a warning about federal penalities.

I've seen the above gun buster sign in NFS and BLM offices here in Colorado this summer...it means what it says.

Not all. The only sign on my local post office is a "it is a felony to rob a postal employee" notice. No 30.06, no gunbusters, nothin.

I don't think you'll see a 30.06 sign on a post office, or any federal building for that matter, as that is Texas law, not federal.

I was in the IRS office at the Federal Building in downtown Ft.Worth last month, and it had the Federal version of the 30.06 sign, but it said "federal prosecution". That was enough to make me wary of federal buildings, and carrying.

Thanks everyone. My son told me the same thing, but I wanted to be sure. :bigear:

Like others have said, federal property doesn't have to post 30.06 signs. It's just off limits. I'm pretty sure other places that are explicitly mentioned also don't HAVE to have a 30.06 sign. I know several PISD schools do not have a 30.06 sign, and I'm not sure if the McKinney courthouse has one either. But anyone who has a CHL should know these places are no carry zones.

As for the post office you mentioned... they have more serious issues than just missing signs (they're my post office as well and a disgrace to the entire USPS).

The McKinney courthouse does have the sign. I had to go there a year ago for some papers to prove I was not a felon for my CHL. the sign was real obvious. The metal detectors reinforced the signs, giving a pretty clear message about carrying a firearm on the premises. :nono:

This PO is the one who told me last Christmas that I had to be an FFL to ship a rifle. That same retard still works there. I had informed him of the fact that he was a complete moron a few months back and he still glares at me when I go in there...LOL.

I could make a three page post of other issues I have had with these fools, but will just shorten it by saying :iagree: with your analysis of this branch.

It would make sense for the courthouse to have it. Of course you'd never make it pass those metal detectors anyway :)

It's a good idea to know the list of places you can't legal carry though. I don't think they are required to post a 30.06. You're just supposed to know.

No sign at the PO in Grapevine but there is a metal detector to go in towards the counter areas. There are not detectors to go to the area where mail boxes are though.

I don't carry when I go there.

I used to think they are metal detectors too...apparently they are loss-prevention detectors, for items that are for sale, with the little tags/sensors.

Not all post offices are federal property. Most of them are leased buildings, especially the rural mom and pop post offices.
