This is a 1M, 55Second video about the upcoming Dallas gun buy program.
The gun has to be in operating condition and you have to show your license to get
the $50 Kroger card.

They talk to officials and gun store employees.

They show a bunch of pistols and long guns, but never explain if the long guns came in
through the previous buyback (I bet not). "No one uses an AK-47 for hunting" but they never
actually explained if any AK's were turned in. Smoke and mirrors for the news cameras.

Notice that although the last gun buyback brought in 150 firearms, NOT ONE was definitively
linked to any crime.

Fort Worth's going to have one of these too, but I didn't drill down to see about theirs.

Are you using Firebird with adblocker plus? I didn't see much for ads.

I use an AK-47 for hunting hogs all the time. The standard capacity magazines help me to be able to take more than one at a time. And just like most so called "AK-47s" that the average civilian can afford, mine is a neutered reflection of a true AK. It is a self loading rifle that is medium powered and not really accurate over 200 or so yards. So, to suggest these look-alike guns we have are more dangerous or powerful is simply ignorant.

I agree that these compensated confiscated programs are nothing more than feel-good measures from a local government that is looking for a way to fool their residence into believing that this waste of taxpayer money will do something to slow down crime in our ever more dangerous cities. Katrina anyone?

Like the gun store employee most aptly said: "criminals are not going to give up the tools of their trade (for a $50 gift card). The program will not work." (or words to that effect)

"No one uses an AK-47 for hunting"

I specifically set up my SKS (yes, I know, not an AK) as a back-up for hunting, it's got a scope on it, decently accurate for what it is (1.5" 5-shot grouping at 100 yards).

There's nothing wrong with owning a gun to protect yourself in your home or to go hunting," said Caraway, the city's new public safety committee chair. "But how many people do you know who go hunting with an AK-47?"

Those who bring a gun can get a $50 grocery card.

In order to get the gift card, participants in the buyback will have to show ID — just in case the gun was involved in an offense in the past. But anyone can just drop off a gun — no questions asked.

"The last time we did this, we found no guns that were linked to any other offenses," Dallas Police Lt. Andy Harvey said. "But that's not the goal here. Our goal is to get them off the street. This is no tricks — we're not here to get you. We're just here to get guns off the streets."

At the DFW Gun Range in Dallas, not everyone was thrilled with the idea.

"My greatest concern is the city is going to feel good about simply getting a number, a quota of guns off the street, and that's going to put our minds at ease because there are less guns out there to commit crimes with," Aaron Closson said. "Criminals are never going to give up the tools of their trade. They're going to hang onto the guns they need to commit their crimes."

Would you participate in this? I absolutely would not, and I don't understand why some one would. Maybe I'm just not empathetic enough concerning the gun buy back. :headscratch

The same guy said: "we have nothing against citizens having guns for personal protection or hunting....." . Then he mentions the AK. But what he didn't say was : "nobody uses a Sig238[insert your own pistol here] for hunting", either.

The point being, an AK is a GREAT home defense gun. Come on, give equal time.
