OH: Driver shoots self, crashes

Post by seamusTX »

A driver in Franklin, Ohio, apparently shot himself in the thigh with a .44 Magnum. :eek6 He then crashed into a moving car, a parked car, and a utility pole. He was taken to the hospital in stable condition.

A bystander said the man denied shooting himself. No other information was available.

The story did not say. Presumably more people would have been taken to the hospital if there were passengers in the vehicle, unless the passenger was uninjured and ran away.

.44 Magnums are often double-action revolvers. I suppose if he had one loose in the cabin, it's possible that some weird series of circumstances made it discharge.

I shudder whenever I hear about someone with a loose, unholstered handgun in a vehicle.

Man will be charged with "negligently failing to secure a firearm" and traffic violations, according to the police chief.

Apparently the man wasn't injured too seriously, as he was discharged from the hospital.
