High Caliber Gun Show @ GRB, Houston
What is the general opinion of the HCGS that will be at the GRBrown convention center this weekend? Between $8 admission and $7-15 to park, it's expensive just to get in. I'm not in the market for T-shirts, jerkey or game calls. Have prices stabilized enough that the gun shows are becoming a reasonable source for firearms, parts, and reloading supplies again?
I've gne to the Pasadena show a couple times - at least parking is free. Haven't been to the big one, but before solidifying plans, I was looking for recent opinions.
Thanks,
Q

I went to the one at GRB 4 weeks ago. It wasn't as big as normal (only about 4 outfits selling hand guns) but I think part of that was because there was a gun show going on at Pasadena the same time. More "junk" there than guns. Prices on pistols were OK - higher than Academy but lower than Carter's Country.

Re: High Caliber Gun Show @ GRB, Houston
I haven't been to the GRB show in a while.
i did go to the Passadena show a few weeks ago, (probably the one Pete is talking about) prices are coming down, i'm not in the market for a pistol so i can't comment on their prices but i am in the market for an AR, Colt 6920s are finally down to pre-election prices, stripped lowers are also back down to reasonable prices and they have them back in stock.
mags are everywhere and back down in price.
ammo is still high.
i'm going to the GRB show to pick up an LPK for my stripped lower i got at the last show.

The last couple of High Caliber Gun Shows we visited in Tyler were okay with $6.00/ea. admission and FREE parking.
Adding the cost of fuel ($10) PLUS $7-12 for parking to the cost of admission would cause us to re-think that day's entertainment. Mrs. Oldgringo ain't that keen on crowds anyway.

GRB is the only gun show I go in Houston. Parking is free on the street and you can always find a spot.
Excellent selection from almost every big TX vendors. Decent price.

The show was kind of sad. There was a lot of empty space in the back and along one of the sides. It looked like less dealers than even a year or two ago.
On the positive side, prices looked like they're coming back to normal. I saw some name brand AR rifles under $1000. PMAG's were plentiful and under $15. The new Ruger AR's were scarce and fetched a premium. I saw a few Kel-Tec carbines for the first time in a year. Those ran around $350. Kel-Tec pistols were in the $250 range. High Points around $150. Most of the mid-range pistols looked reasonable on price, except for CZ, but I remember when they were $300 guns. The fancy 1911's are still spendy. Lots of "tactical" 22's. There was also a small but decent mix of used rifles for sale among the new handguns and rifles.
Another positive sign is people are still buying. Not just looking. AJ's had six chairs with people filling out 4473's and there were people waiting for chairs both times I passed by.

BTW, from what I have seen over the last month...
Ammo prices do seem to be coming down, in general...Black rifle ammo in particular...

Re: High Caliber Gun Show @ GRB, Houston
Yeah, even saw a few M1As in decent prices. Prices seem to be on par with those in the pre-election days.

Re: High Caliber Gun Show @ GRB, Houston
it was a good show.
got there at 11am on Sunday. good sized crowd, and like the others have said lots of 4473's being filed out.
picked up a RRA AR-15 LPK from Texas Tactical for $69, there were cheaper (and even more expensive) LPK's but of questionable quality.
i got the numbers writen down at home but IIRC.
6920's were $1099
ruger SR556's $1350
1000rd .556 $400-600
sorry no info on pistols, i was looking for black rifle stuff to finish out this build i'm working on. but from what i saw pistol prices and the ammo to go along with them are coming down or already back to pre-election pices and stock is going back up.
