SAXET GUN SHOW, more normal pricing yet?

Post by RiverRat »

The SAXET GUN SHOW is going to be in Austin this weekend. I haven't been in several months because of the grossly adjusted prices after the presidential resident change in February. If I need a laugh, I'll watch the unbiased reporting on the national evening news for free. "rlol"

My question is; Has anyone been to one recently and have their prices begun to settle down?

I hate to drive 20 miles and pay $5 to get in the door to see almost ridiculously overpriced guns and ammo and price gougers at work! :mad5
I honestly haven't seen a NON-dealer with a table trading guns at one of those in Austin in over a year. Sort of defeats the purpose of a gun show.

Went there today. Prices seem a bit better. Just one example is Glock 27 NIB was about $525 to $550 a few months ago at most tables ($475 if you found a used one). Today two different tables had them NIB for $479; one guy still had his at $525.

Ammo is a bit cheaper and much more plentiful, though there are still a few jerks trying to sell non-name brand .380 FMJ ammo for $1 per round.

AR-15 30-round mags were going as low as $11.50 for C-Products mil-spec (paid $16 ea. for a few of these 4 months ago). AR-15s themselves were a mixed bag. Saw the first sub $1000 ARs I've seen since before the election. But also still some stock Bushmasters with $1300 price tags.

Just a few examples of things I noticed that I remembered the prices from a few months back.

We went too. Some of the pricing had relaxed. I got some AR trigger kits for $59, others had them for $95. Lowers for $125 at one dealer and very available. Uppers were $550 to $650 for common ones. I noticed the Mosins dropped in price between Saturday and Sunday from $159 to $110. Of course, I didn't get the correct adapter for the scope mount on the AR I'm building and HAD to go back today  . I got a sealed tin of 7.62x54 for my Mosin for $109 which is a wash when you add shipping on internet pricing.

I was surprised about used revolver pricing, was looking for a Blackhawk in .45 or .357 and they were running over $500......McBride's has them on their website new for $420.....SKS's were $3 to 400ish, which was way off the pre-election prices, saw some AK's below $600 for the first time in a long time, lever Marlin 336's were around $400 used, Academy has them new for $350ish....that kind of thing. All in all it was worth the $5.

DARN IT!! An AR trigger kit. That's what I forgot to look for Saturday. Were these standard kits or upgraded/match type kits? Did you happen to buy one to many an want to sell?

I'm looking for a trigger upgrade for my AR ... a Bushie or RRA two-stage most likely.

OK, yeah I've been to GDS before. Good store, good people, good selection of specialized AR-15 gear (bought a tac light mount and some mags from them). Always try to stop there when I'm down south side of town - not too far from Red's Indoor Range.

Thanks for the posts; I will be going to the San Antonio show this weekend and will let you know if anything different here. (may be an expensive research trip; last two Saxet shows I went to here resulted in one Glock and two S&W airweights, all at better prices than the local gun shops (duh) and Academy) :txflag:

Flash, where are they holding the San Antonio shows these days? I used to go when I lived there and I think I remember it rotated between some warehouse-like "convention center" near the airport and a church or temple off of 1604.

The Saxet rotates between the Freeman Coliseum ($5 parking in addition to entry fee) which is next to the AT&T center and the Alzafar Shrine temple on 1604 between Stone Oak and Blanco RD where it will be this weekend (free parking). In addition, there is Texas Gun Shows which alternates between Live Oak Civic Center and another event center on the west side by Lackland AFB although it is much smaller than Saxet, less dealers/selection and more crafts/misc. :txflag:
