Remington 700 XCR .308 26"
Remington 700 XCR .308 26"
I have my eye on this guy, but others have told me that $1200 is a bit steep for a Remington 700. Thoughts?

I paid 300 for my Remmy 700 from a pawn shop about 4 years ago. Its about 25 years old and in flawless condition.
Unless the one you are looking at is tricked out somehow or has a Leupold or Trijicon scope, I'd say that price is way high.

I went to the Gallery of Guns website and found an XCR long range tactical. MSRP is $1407. They didn't have one in stock so I couldn't check their price. That was the only XCR listed and it was much higher than the other 700s.

I guess the XCR is greek for "Super Tricked Out". It does look nice. http://www.remington.com/products/firea ... 00_XCR.aspTxRVer wrote:I went to the Gallery of Guns website and found an XCR long range tactical. MSRP is $1407. If you "need" that kind of performance, go for it. The 700 I have is a plain ole-fashioned BDL model from the 70's. It shoots as good as I can hold it steady; which is pretty good. It's happiest with Remmington 165gr soft nose (30-0-6) for some reason. It's not quite as accurate with other loads and manufacturers. I've been told by those that should know that it's because Remmington loads that particular round with that perticular rifle/twist ratio in mind. The 165gr bullet is matched to that barrel. I'm not that much of an "inside baseball" gun nut to know if this is indeed the case. I just know that my rifle shoots very well with that load.
The important thing however is that you spend half of what you have on guns and the rest on ammo.
