Winchester RA45T series ammo?
Anyone here tried it? Specifically, tried it in a Kimber or other 1911 platform firearm? It looks like good self defense ammo. They have it in the +P and also standard loads. +p gives an extra 100 FPS at muzzle but I don't know if it is worth the punishment it puts shooter and weapon through? Opinions????????? The bullet is bonded, so I guess it is less likely to suffer from fragmentation on impact with heavy clothing or car doors or what ever.

I've used it and it functions fine in all of 1911's except for one Colt Commander.

Do you think the +P will put undo strain on my Kimber Ultra Carry? Doing the internet search on it, I came across a few posts here and there that claim the +P was a bit too hot for the stock recoil springs on the Ultra Carry.

Re: Winchester RA45T series ammo?
I just recently found out there might be something to this. Recently.....as in a few hours ago. I have used the federal HST rounds in my Ultra carry and I think they are a +P type load. I was having a problem with my front sight coming off after firing fifty or hundred rounds at the range. Some red lock tight put a stop to the problem, but now I am left wondering if the +p loads may have contributed to the front sights coming off. I plan to look into it further.killerfly128 wrote:I dont think so, if you are worried about it order a Wollf extra power spring.03Lightningrocks wrote:Do you think the +P will put undo strain on my Kimber Ultra Carry? Is there any down side to using the heavier recoil spring? Will it help any with accuracy or dependability? How would this affect the feeding? Help it? hurt it?
Sorry for all the questions. I don't know a heck of a lot about the 1911 style pistols and am learning on the run. Thanks for the help.

Re: Winchester RA45T series ammo?
I shot a few mags of RA45TP and Blazer Brass through my Kimber Pro CDP.
couldn't tell the difference in recoil between the two.
might look into something like GoldDots for Short Barrel for your Kimber Ultra. may not be getting all the velocity out of the round due to the short barrel.
just mah thoughts (or lack thereof...)

FWIW, IIRC, AFAIK, FTMP, IANAL. YMMV.

The Cor Bon DPX or a really hot round will achieve the same thing IMO. The bullet just needs enough velocity to open up when it hits its target.
