I hand the officer both, and state if I am packing or not. Since I cannot carry while working, there are times I dont not carry. But I still present the CHL because we all know he will check the DL and when he does it will flash CHL, so to avoid the obvious questions I give up both and state if I am carrying or not. I also work in that I am ex LEO and if he feels better disarming me, I completely understand. I know most on this board disagree with that. But most on this board are not ex LEO. The ones that are LEO or ex LEO probably understand where I am coming from in doing so.

I dont remember if it was in this thread or another the question I have seen come up is why do I have to stay in the car when stopped. Here is one of the reasons. Many years ago I stopped a Ford Mustang speeding in Kingwood. The driver, a well dressed (sports coat, white shirt, slacks) exit the vehicle as he did so a nickle plated .380 fell to ground. In moment of shear stupidity he bent over to pick it up. Somewhere between STOP! and I will blow your head off, his brain re-engaged, he stopped and stood straight up with hands open, stating rather sheepishly he was a police officer. I asked him where his credentials were and removed them to find that he was in fact an HPD officer. His remark to me was that really wasnt one of his better ideas. I could not have agreed more. He thanked me for not making his wife a widow and went on his way.

Amen! With both hands on the wheel, and dome lights on(if nighttime). Give the LEO the opportunity to let you know why he stopped you....even if you think you do.

Well, got pulled over by a Highway patrol today. (78mph in a 70mph zone) Both hands on the wheel. Handed both License and CHL. He glanced at the CHL and handed it right back. Asked me where I was going. Told him, gave me a warning.

It was a pleasant ending to a 1000 mile trip.

Roberts, with most HPD officers working in you play golf with the mayor would probably get you a ticket quicker than anything! I probably would refrain from that! LOL
