Point ' shoot or safety on.

Post by MoJo »

Ok do you carry a point 'n shoot gun or one with a manual safety? What's the reason for your choice?

I prefer pns I carry an M&P 40 and a 5 shot snub as a backup . I think by the time the stress factor gets to OSG (oh shucks gunfight) my mental state is going to be focused on staying alive not operating a safety etc.

Point and shoot

XD has grip and trigger safety, when held really the only way you can shoot it, it goes bang.

You didn't give an option for "yes to more than one choice depending on circumstances."

I like both pns and cnl.

All guns have at least two safeties. One's digital, one's cognitive. In other words - keep the digit off the trigger until ready to fire, and THINK. Some guns also have mechanical safeties on top of those. But if the first two don't work, the mechanical ones aren't guaranteed. - me

I recently purchased a Springfield 1911 for my main carry gun. I used to carry my XD .45. I went to the 1911 because it was sliimer and easier to conceal.

My Taurus is always carried safety on, 1 in the pipe, 10 in the mag.

I have practiced enough with my pistol that snicking down the safety when needed is part
of my muscle memory.

If I had a 1911 I'd carry it in Condition 1 since I've learned from all the JMB fans that that's how it's done.

If I had an XD I'd feel fine with the combo of grip safety and trigger safety.

Glocks with trigger safety only - No thanks.

I always carry a "point and shoot". Even on my work gun that DA/SA with decocker and manual safety (HK USPc) I keep it decocked but I don't use the actual safety. My other carry guns are DAO (P2000SK with LEM, Glock 19, P32, LCP and LCR).

Same way I carry my USPc. No point in adding one more action I could mess up under stress when the DA pull is like pulling a piano across a glass floor.

Well I probably carry both cocked and locked and point and shoot (Glock, and I've managed not to shoot myself, imagine that :???: ) an equal amount. I'm comfortable with either.

I just despise a DA/SA platform though.

Everything I carry is DA or Glock-style "safe-action". Glock 23, S&W 638, Ruger LCP, and soon Walther PPS. Used to carry Colt Mustang a decade ago. But switching back to a manual safety now would be like trying to teach an old dog new tricks.
