Ever have a gun just "go off"?

Post by YabuUS »

We've all heard stories about guns that just "went off" by themselves. I've never had a gun do that. It seems to me that with all the internal safety's built into modern handguns these days the chance of a gun just going off is pretty remote. Anybody here ever have any experience with this sort of thing? Is this pretty much a non-issue these days - or have I just been lucky?

the only reports i've ever heard of (and that's been very few) is when a gun is dropped .

one case i remember most was a mans gun fell to the floor and "went off" striking the man in the chest .
i don't know the exact details but its possible he may have tried to catch it and inadvertently activated the trigger .

Never had one just go off. No such thing as spontanious combustion w/ firearms.

It amazes me that some folks worry terribly about this & carrying w/ one in the pipe w/ a handgun.
I have never yet heard anyone have either of these concerns w/ a rifle or shotgun. :banghead:

Booger Probe away from the Boom Button & absolute silence is all you will ever hear from a handgun. :tiphat:

Mostly what you hear is that "while cleaning the gun, it just went off"...........

Of course it did not just go off.........there is no way a modern gun will go off without someone pulling the trigger. :banghead:

So, peeps who end up doing this, just say "it just went off" to try and get out of the Negligent Discharge rap.

It usually does not work though....... ;-)

Peeps?

Is that a word out of the ebonics vocabulary?

I see these words sprinkled here and there and wonder what happened to standard English?

Props/peeps and the rest of cool-guy speak isn't effective if the word used isn't understood by all.

I have a lot of confidence in the safety of modern handguns - so much so that I plan to carry my Millennium Pro .45 in a "Smart Carry" rig that's worn around the waist. The gun sits in a pouch with the muzzle pointing directly at your private parts. How's that for "confidence"? :thumbs2:

Not taking back what I said about the safety of modern handguns - but I just noticed a thread about Ruger's recall on the LCP. The op said that an email from Ruger claimed the LCP could "go off" if dropped with a round in the chamber! Whoa, this is news to me. And wasn't there a recall on the Ruger LCR? What was that about? :headscratch

Ruger has since corrected the problem with the LCP .
not sure about the LCR.

OK, amending my statement to read "a modern handgun in proper working order will not just go off."

That does not qualify as just "going-off". It was dropped and considered a defective weapon.
