DMV (DPS) person recognised my CHL

Post by geoelectro »

I got my renewal notice for my Drivers License today. I decided to go to DPS after lunch. I mentioned it at lunch and one of the guys said he had just received his new DL. He pulled it out and it looked an awful lot like my CHL. We all compared them and then I went to the DPS office. She asked for my DL and I laid my wallet down on the counter with the CHL showing. (It's normally right behind my DL). After we took the picture and looked into the eyeball checker, she said $32.00. As I paid she said to expect the new DL in the mail and it will be the new type,,,just like your CHL. ;-)

Cool!

What exactly is DMV? I mean I know it commonly means "Department of Motor Vehicles", but in my neck of the woods, to get your driver's license renewed requires you to go to a local DPS office where civilians walk you through the renewal process. If this is the case, then I'm not surprised that they would recognize a CHL, as you can actually pick up a CHL application at any DPS office.

I lived in Cali for only 3 years and have been in Texas over 20, but I still slip and say DMV once or twice a year.
I am not and have never been a LEO. My avatar is in honor of my friend, Dallas Police Sargent Michael Smith, who was murdered along with four other officers in Dallas on 7.7.2016.

Are you aware that Smyrna, GA is the US home of Glock?
It's in the south end of Cobb County, right next to Atlanta.

I was looking at the out of state CHL holders and noticed that the
zip code for Smyrna, GA had 1 or more Texas CHL's. I'm guessing that it's
one of the Glock staff that must come here to Texas on bidness.

I've lived in California for the majority of my life and when i moved to Texas about 6 years ago, I kept looking and asking for Texas DMV (Department of Motor Vehicles) locations. All I got were confused and blank stares only to find out later that it was DPS. :banghead:

Oh yeah and do we Texan's still have Driver License?...instead of a Driver's License like the other 49 states.

Well, I'll be using my CWP or CCL to conceal and carry my weapon, and a few clips of bullets for my centre fire 45 calibre automatic. Did I mention I carry dum-dum bullets in my gun? We must all labour to use Her Majesty's proper English.
4/13/1996 Completed CHL Class, 4/16/1996 Fingerprints, Affidavits, and Application Mailed, 10/4/1996 Received CHL, renewed 1998, 2002, 2006, 2011, 2016...). "ATF... Uhhh...heh...heh....Alcohol, tobacco, and GUNS!! Cool!!!!"

When it's possible, save yourself the aggravation of doing it in person and instead re-new over the internet.

I have never lived in any other state (even during a 4 year stint in the Army) and still say DMV. Thanks to movies and tv.

Yep, I knew that about Glock.

Smyrna is also a small rural community in NE Texas and one of the 7 churches mentioned in the book of Revelation.

I never really learned WHAT it was called. My whole family just simply called it "the driver's license place". We never were confused or had any problems over it.
