Not only is there Italy, there is also Sicily.
Not only is there Boston, there is Old Boston and New Boston, all 3 near Texarkana.
New Boston was the site of the opening scene of
Robert Duvall's self-funded movie "The Apostle," which is one of my
favorite movies. It is the story of a man who has unshakable faith in Jesus Christ,
but also a definite sinner too. His character's name is Sonny and his Texas
vanity license plate in the movie is "SONNY" (son of God metaphor). See it, you'll
be moved. At one point in the movie, he dumps his Lincoln in the river to get rid
of it while he's on the run to Louisiana. Kind of like the Son of God getting baptized.
A town named Colony in Denton County, next to Lewisville, applied to have that as its
official name, but was told that there was already a Colony, Texas. So this town changed
their official name to "The Colony" Texas.
In Cherokee County, between Nacogdoches (say Knack-uh-doe-chezz) and Jacksonville,
there is a town name "Reklaw" on TX 204. That is "Walker" backwards.
Another El Paso mileage story: El Paso is closer to Los Angeles, California than it is
to Texarkana.
There are 254 counties in Texas. The easternmost 120 of them have alligators.
