Need Info: Hawes Western Marshal .44 Mag

I wonder if anyone can help me place a value on this revolver. My dad picked this up many years ago when I was a kid. He hasn't shot it much - it has a HAIR trigger... Does anyone know how to determine the manufacture date from this firearm?

There is no rust on the firearm from what I can tell - but it does appear some of the lubricant used in the past has gel'd and needs to be thoroughly cleaned. It's been parked in a safe for at least 10 years. I remember shooting it once when I was a kid - probably 20 years ago.

From what I've read, it was made by J.P. Sauer and Son and imported from Germany before they merged with Sig.

I believe the 68 on the base of the barrel is the manufacture year (1968). Hawes Firearms was created after Hy Hunter discontinued their gun line in the early 1960s. They were previously manufactured by J.P. Sauer & Sohn in Eckernforde, Germany and imported by Hawes Firearms in Van Nuys, CA.

According to what I have found, a generalized price range is: centerfire single actions usually are in the $200-$395 range, centerfire double actions are $175-$295, while .22 rimfire models are typically valued between $100-$200.

Thanks for the responses fellas - my dad just got his CHL, and is debating selling this to fund a new concealed carry piece. Not sure what he'll do just yet.

I bought one of these exact same guns not too long ago. Don't sell it! The price you will get for it is not very good because of the Hawes name, but being made by J.P. Sauer and Sohn, it is very well made. The recessed chambers in the cylinder is just one example of this quality.
The gun itself is a scaled-up version of the famous Colt Single Action Army. It has been beefed up in a few key areas as well to handle the 44mag round. They do have hair triggers. It disassembles the exact same way as a single action army, as well.
Note that it has the same lockwork as a SAA-meaning that you will hear 4 audible clicks as you draw the hammer back. THIS GUN IS NOT DROP SAFE. Carry it with an empty chamber under the hammer, just like the SAA.

Just tell him to get an IWB holster and chop off the barrel to 2 inches.
Off course, I am kidding. I agree with T3hK1w1. The Sauer guns have great workmanship and the amount of money you would get for it won't offset the price of a new carry gun enough to part with this beauty.
