Open wearing an empty holster and magazine carrier?
First of all, I don't plan on nor do I advocate open wearing an empty holster and loaded magazine carrier. Just thought it was an interesting "what if" question. I didn't say it was a very smart thing to do. One scenario might be it's a hot day and you need to make a quick stop at your local Stop N Go so you leave your cover and weapon in your vehicle (out of view, of course) and stop for a cold drink or whatever. What might happen in such a situation? Just a lot of unwanted looks and attention? Someone "freaks out" and calls the police? The police come and ask you a lot of questions and maybe take you down to the station for more questions? What if instead of leaving your weapon in your vehicle you put it in your pocket "fully" concealed. Are you now legally carrying or not? Your weapon is concealed, but your holster and loaded magazine are clearly visible. Certainly not within the spirit of concealed carry I wouldn't think. What do you forum members think or speculate about these two scenarios? I'm new to the CHL Forum and apologize if this subject has already been addressed or covered in the past discussions.

On the legal side, we are only required to conceal the firearm. An empty holster or a magazine or even ammunition is NOT a firearm and can be worn taped to your forehead.
On a practical side, an empty holster and loaded mag carrier would generally indicate you have a firearm "somewhere" and may make you a target of either an assault/robbery attempt by a goblin or a hissy fit by an anti (which may include a call to the cops).

Reasonable gun control is hitting your target with the first shot.
Re: Open wearing an empty holster and magazine carrier?
Why would anyone even want to show off an empty concealment holster to the public, other than to attract attention to himself or herself??
Drawing attention to oneself would be the VERY last thing we would want to do, IMO.

Your average person on the street is operating in a condition of awareness less than white, I call it "Transparent" they blissfully go about their daily routine not paying attention to anything except for that cute girl/guy over there or the new Tire Burner 5000 Billy Bob is driving. They text, make phone calls and don't even look when they cross the street. What makes you think they would notice an empty holster, or even know what it is for that matter? I wouldn't do it myself but - - -
This reminds me of a story a buddy of mine told, he went into a store without a cover garment and an empty Yaqui Slide holster on his belt. A kid asked him what it was he told the kid it was a holder for his hammer.

Because it's totally out of the ordinary. When it is never seen by the general public at large, you'd better believe many people would notice it, since it resembles a gun holster. I'm talking about an OWB. An IWB might(stress MIGHT) go unnoticed by the majority of people. What makes you think they would notice an empty holster, or even know what it is for that matter?
On the other hand a Yaqui holster doesn't. It looks like some sort of tool holder.
But either way, I think it's just a foolish idea. Again...my opinion.

College students have worn empty holsters on campus to protest the school gun laws. I didn't hear of any one being carted off to jail.

This topic has been discussed a while back, but here are my opinions:
What might happen? A lot of things might happen.
What would probably happen? Nothing.
What if someone "freaks out"? There have not been any reports of freakouts or women and children running and screaming if they see an empty holster [or even a glimpse of a gun].
Take you to the station for more questions? For what? What more could they ask after "Sir, why are you wearing an empty holster? Did you lose your gun?"

What, pray tell, would be the point??? Are you going to take out a weapon from its concealed holster and then leave the holster uncovered? Why - is it show and tell or just feel good? I don't get it...

I don't get it either. I assume the holster was concealed along with your weapon when you were carrying - why would it become unconcealed empty?couzin wrote:"Open wearing an empty holster and magazine carrier?"

Why would folks call the police in panic over an empty holster, unless one was waving the former occupant of said holster around?

Re: Open wearing an empty holster and magazine carrier?
One scenario that pops into my head: When I'm heading to the farm (to hunt, work, fish, just get away...) I put my 9 in my OWB holster, T-shirt does cover it, but not as well as my IWB is covered when I wear it. If I do stop at a Quiky Mart, I go on and take the pistol out, put it in my console, get my diet coke and come out. I'm just paranoid that my shirt doesn't cover the OWB very well. When I'm at the farm, I could care less, and don't want to wear my IWB. That's my .02.

Is the Quiky Mart 30.06 posted? If not, why disarm?southboundp wrote:One scenario that pops into my head: When I'm heading to the farm (to hunt, work, fish, just get away...)
