44 special rounds are on par with a .45 ACP. Even an airlight frame will not be the lightest so recoil will be further dampened.

I second the .357 revolver though for the reasons given.

Who makes the 2" snubby 454 casull?

Ruger..Its called the Alaskan you can get it in a 44mag or 454/45colt ..Will retail anywhere between $650-$800 depending where you buy it..The gun is very concealable depending on how big you are

Be careful what you wish for with your wife if they get bit, it can get real expensive feeding a double habit.

My wife started with Kahr PM9 likes it just fine but she also wanted a revolver for a particular purse so we got her a SP101 3", it matches up with mine and +P honady's work great for her & she loves The way it shoots. However she bought another new carry purse and the hammer catch's wit it soooo we just HAD to get a SP in 2" with CT grips and spurless. I hope she doesn't find a new larger purse before I get my next one. I really need a 45acp.

 I understand but I think I wouldnt mind spending the cash just knowing she is packing and started to want to go shooting. I have a awesome wife as she supports my hobbies 100% and if she was to become a pistol packing mama. The skys would open,Ammo would go down 50% in price,Old Style Beer would now taste good, Bin laden would walk to up to my door selling girl scout cookies. I guess what im saying is the world would be perfect.:

Aw yes, the Alaskan. Those things may be a snubby because they have a 2 1/2 bbl, but they are monsters. I think the 454 weighs in at 50+ozs and I sure would not want to carry one unless I was hunting in big bear country (for backup), although there is a holster maker (Simply Rugged I think) in Alaska who makes a IWB for them. Other than that they are best for bed side home defense loaded with 45 Colt in my opinion. I have both the 44 and 454 (just wanted the Alaskan series and I like Ruger revolvers) and was getting ready to get the last one (480) when they stopped making them.
