My school's weapons policy-*UPDATE*

Post by Aggie_engr »

So a few days ago I posted the weapons policy that my school has and since then I have contacted a sgt from the College Station's campus police force and this is his response email:
Storing a firearm in your vehicle on campus?

It is not a violation of state law, but is potentially a violation of the student code of conduct. I spoke with Jeff Stefancic, Conflict Resolution Services in the Offices of the Dean of Student Life, and he advised that a student could be charged with a student rules violation for possessing a firearm on campus (CHL or not). Please see the information below.

24.3.6 Weapons and explosives. Unauthorized use, possession or storage of any weapon, fireworks or explosive on university premises or at any university-sponsored activity. The term weapon may be defined as any object or substance designed to inflict a wound, cause injury or pain, or to incapacitate. Weapons may include, but are not limited to, all firearms, pellet guns, slingshots, martial arts devices, switchblade knives and clubs.

If you have any further questions, please feel free to contact me.

Thanks!
So it looks like you could still face punishment from the university even though it is not against state law. My education is more important to me right now than exercising my rights so for this reason I will not be storing my handgun in my vehicle while on campus. I thought that by sharing this info maybe some of you could pass the word along to others who are in the same position as I am.

And just like my employers policy that does not apply to non-employees, this will not apply to non-students. For all of my employers efforts to ban weapons on-site they do nothing to prevent others from bringing weapons on-site.

Thanks for the update.

Under those ridiculous definitions, pepper spray is apparently banned as well, as it is designed to incapacitate, and it sure as sunshine causes pain...

... Maybe you should start casually mentioning to all the female students that you know that the school has banned personal protection pepper spray... I'm sure there's probably plenty of them that carry it. Start the small slow snowball, let it roll downhill

Personally, if it's not against the Law, I would do it. Besides, do they conduct random vehicle searches or something? And even if they do, that's what a lockbox is for. "Oh sorry, I don't have the combination, it's my wife's car".

If that's the logic and intelligence demonstrated by college faculty

It's no mystery why USA is getting stupider and stupider

I went to a store today and the total was $17.58
I gave them three pennies and a $20 bill
They gave me $2.42 in change and then handed back my 3 pennies
:banghead:

Somebody better let the baseball team know that they can no longer store their bats in their vehicles or dorm rooms on campus.

I just dont see how the school can restrict what is in your vehicle outside of state law (school buildings).

How can they limit what you have in your car on a state owned parking lot, some of which can even be blocks from campus?

Now now... that's not exactly true, as a baseball bat is not 'designed' to inflict a wound, etc etc. It's designed to hit a ball.

Pepper spray, tazers, and other personal protection devices (pocket knives may be covered under this as well) are Designed to protect by doing exactly that. Inflicting wounds, causing pain, or incapacating.

Basically, with the above policy, the school is banning any and all kinds of personal protection. I would be raising hell about it.

I guarantee that if any woman asks about the policy covering pepper spray, etc, they'll get a 'well, we don't mean that' or 'yea, but we won't enforce it on that' sort of response, which is bull. Either they need to enforce it fully, or the policy needs to be removed or changed.

They can't... the policy is just lip service, which is yet another reason it needs to be destroyed.

I know. I was being the south end of a north bound Mustang.
True, but I bet if someone were beaten with a baseball bat it would be described as a deadly weapon in court.

So... using that logic my target pistol, which is designed to hit a target, would be OK? :fire

Just asking...

Oh, you're bad. It's insane, but what are you gonna do? They've yet to consult me before making any of these rules.
