Found some targets for later...
We bought some pumpkins and gourds yesterday, and after the halloween/Thanksgiving
season I am going to take them to a friend's private property and blow them up...
I can't wait!
Has anyone had any experience with these targets of opportunity?
I see R.Lee Ermy doing it to watermelons on TV...

They are very satisfying targets! Have fun. Do consider bringing different guns and calibers so you can decide which give you the most satisfaction.

Don't forget the 12 gauge so you can seriously splatter them

If guns kill people, then pencils misspell words.

That is for what is left after the other guns!

Thanks for the suggestion of a video....
I'll try to do that - it would be fun to share with family and friends also...

Pumpkins are soft enough that most projectiles will go through them instead of exploding them. However, one can make a rather satisfactory hole in a pumpkin with a 20ga slug....
We were out shooting at a bunch of softball-sized pumpkins yesterday. Wound up with a couple that we called "red-neck jack-o-lanterns" (i.e. carved with birdshot instead of a knife).
Lots of fun, and the best part is no need to clean up. We knew the desert critters would take advantage of the leftovers as soon as we left the area.

All guns have at least two safeties. One's digital, one's cognitive. In other words - keep the digit off the trigger until ready to fire, and THINK. Some guns also have mechanical safeties on top of those. But if the first two don't work, the mechanical ones aren't guaranteed. - me

Tannerite targets work well for these as well. A fella that is on SilencerTalk (beware, some language) makes a guide for these types of targets. Fill them with appropriate levels of legal tannerite, and shoot. If it's over 2100fps (IIRC) and watch the pumpkins explode.
I'll have to find the link.
ETA:
Not tannerite, but still good stuff.

His website. $10 for the pamphlet and recipe book. Totally ATF legal. Scroll to bottom of the page there and click on the two videos. Sweet stuff.

Pumpkins are awesome to shoot! I like to fill them with something like water or sand before I shoot them. We always wait until right after the Halloween and thanksgiving time and THEN go talk the pumpkin patch folks and try to make some deals. Its less they have to load up and move when they are done and you don't pay full OUCH price for a pumpkin. Filling them makes for better puncture wounds and they stay together longer. Have fun and keep shooting.
