Surprisingly good newbie gun information

Post by Kythas »

Something Awful is a comedy site, but this is a surprisingly good workup for people not acquainted with firearms. It even includes information on firearm safety, the 4 Rules, calibers, definitions, what guns/ammo are best for home defense, and the following great bit of advice:
If you act like you have a gun, you need to be able to use it. That simple.

If you are purchasing a firearm, or a facsimilie of one, for protection as a carry or home defense weapon, you need to consider this. If you are in a situation where you are not being overtly threatened, and you show a firearm, you have just escalated the situation to the point where deadly force is in play. If you cannot deal with shooting someone, mentally, or if you do not have the capability, either physically, in terms of skill, or an actual loaded firearm, you are now in a life threatening situation with no ability to follow through and actually shoot.

There are even links to other forums regarding shotguns, rifles, AKs, ARs, hunting, etc. I've perused some of the other forums and found they are equally helpful, again not what I would expect on a comedy site.
