Yesterday (Thursday) I was in Dallas, waking to the news of the red-level airport security protocols being activated, and about to drive a vacationing friend to DFW for a noon flight to Chicago. Time appeared to be critical, and we left immediately for the airport, she jettisoning all liquids in her sole carry-on luggage along the way.
Upon arriving at the United departure area, I stepped from the car, wearing my usual Galco front-pack which was sagging appropriately from the weight of its .45. As TSAs and local police were buzzing all around, I was curious to see if there would be any reaction to such an obvious package. There were some quick glances which seemed to indicate recognition, but nothing worthy of a second look. My feeling was that rednecks weren't on the radar that morning.

Good thing you didn't have a bottled water in your hand. You'd have been jumped on like the last Krispy Kreme.
I am going to fly on Monday, unless something else happens before then, and I am not looking forward to it. I've decided to fedex everything ahead.

I am scared of empty guns and keep mine loaded at all times. The family knows the guns are loaded and treats them with respect. Loaded guns cause few accidents; empty guns kill people every year. -Elmer Keith. 1961

Mrs. Anygun and I flew to PA on Monday on bidness. We took along our handguns. We flew Continental out of Bush. The TSA x-ray has always been staffed, but this time Continental agent had to call TSA to send someone over to xray. It took a little time but was no big deal.
Our return flight was out of Philadelphia. Mrs. Anygun turned on the news when we awoke and the big story was the lines at PHL. We hurried up and caught the shuttle. We purged our handcarried bags while waiting for TSA which took longer than in the past.
We managed to make our flight but the lines were long. Most folks took things in stride but there were the line cutters and self important jerks who were promptly corrected by airport personnel. The folks in charge showed no favoritism as eventhe aircrews were subjected to the same policies that the rest of us had to comply with.
The situation the world is in will get much worse before it improves, if ever.
