Police Dog

Post by Keith B »

This is a great one. The guy never saw it coming.

Notice the suspect on the far side of the car, apparently firing a gun - you see the smoke from the muzzle, and a split second later - the Shepherd leaps across the roof of the auto, clamps onto the suspect, and brings him down quickly - you'll watch it a few times to really appreciate the valor of this dog.

This police dog is so fast, you have to watch this a few times to appreciate it. Go doggy, go!!

Sorry for the embedded animated gif, but it was the only version I could find. I thought this needed posting. :thumbs2:

Thanks KeithB! It's working for me. :tiphat:

Wow! It took only the dog to subdue an armed shooter, when he held 4 LEO's at bay. I counted he got off at least 2 shots before the dog jumped over the roof to get to the bg.

He's/she's a hero in my book, and I hope he got a steak dinner for his/her heroic deed. :thumbs2:

I wonder what breed of dog that is? I couldn't tell.

It's a training session. The dog is a Malinois.

Maybe it's me, but the first pic looks like it was a training exercise. The overcoat looks like one of those bite jackets and it looks like the guy 'shooting' throws his arm out (for the dog to latch on to).

Either way, it's a very cool video and they dog is one special pooch!

ETA: Oops...didn't see the youtube video.

You know, after watching it a couple of times, I THOUGHT that might have been a dog jacket he was wearing, but wasn't sure.

Thanks for the full video chabouk! :thumbs2:

The video at this link is NOT a training session. Haven't worked up to figuring out how to post videos yet, so you'll have to follow the link.
http://www.commercialappeal.com/news/20 ... r#comments" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Summary: Police chased a burglary suspect into heavy brush, at night. A police helicopter with a heat imaging camera spotted the suspect laying in the brush and guided a K-9 team towards the suspect. When they were close (but the two-legged officer still couldn't see) the dog picked up on the suspect, the dog was released, and he went right after the suspect. The suspect stabbed the dog several times while his handler was still fighting through the brush, but the dog did not quit. The handler struggled with the suspect until another officer got there, and they subdued the suspect. Then they figured out the dog was hurt. The dog, named Gunner, needed a transfusion and surgery, but he survived and went back to duty.

The suspect was later convicted of various assaults charges for fighting the dog. He claimed he didn't know he was stabbing a police dog. He tried to claim it was a fox, or sasquatch, or something...

The post I got this from is here, started by a guy who says he's in the same department as the K-9. More info there:

The Malinois (Mal) is an awesome dog. I've trained a few for things similar to what is in the video. This video is training. The guy has a bite suit on. The full video on You-Tube includes a guy getting pulled out of the van and two dogs taking down a guy putting a hostage in a car. They are a higher strung dog than most GSDs and about 10 pounds lighter. For working dogs that is.
