quick questions regarding dispositions
I am going to send my packet in on monday (finally!).
I had a juvenile arrest 15 years ago that did not result in any charges being filed. I have a certified copy of a "no records found" records search from the county clerk covering the year before the arrest up until this year.
I have a couple of questions before I send in my application, though.
- I assume I send them the original copy of the records search? I made several copies, but wasn't sure if they need the original or not.
- I am not 100% certain of the date of the arrest. No charges ever came of it, my parents didn't keep any records, my old lawyer didn't keep any records, the county has no records. On my application I just put ??/1994 . Is this going to be a problem? I don't have any other way of finding out when this happened. I was only able to narrow the year down based on where I was living at the time.
Thanks in advance for any help.
Edit: One more question - the instructions say to write my application number on all supporting documents. It says that it should be at the top of the yellow application form. My yellow application form doesn't have a number at the top of it...is there somewhere else this might be located?

Re: quick questions regarding dispositions
Send the original to DPS. Keep a copy for your use in the future, in case this issue surfaces again.
(It is unlikely that it will. Juvie records are sealed and eventually purged.)
The vagueness of the date doesn't matter.
Good luck.

Re: quick questions regarding dispositions
Yes, you send the ORIGINAL of what ever you have and keep the copies. It sounds like you've covered your bases well.
I did about the same. Got certified dispositions from Tarrant county, certified background checks from Arlington AND Euless(where the arrests occured), and sent in with my application packet. It made for a quicker approval IMO by sending in everything all at once, instead of giving them a chance to delay processing and asking me for more stuff.

Wow, thanks for the quick response!
I had one more question that I edited into my original post concerning the application number if anyone knows...

I haven't seen the latest application form.koolaid wrote:...the instructions say to write my application number on all supporting documents. You should have had to write your application number on your fingerprint cards and the back of your photographs during class. Did you do that?
It's something like a 10-digit number with a letter at the end.

Re: quick questions regarding dispositions
You received an application number IF you applied on line. It's an 8 digit number followed by the letter "L".
I don't think you are issued an application number if you received your application packet in the CHL class from your instructor.

Aha. That would be why, then. Maybe I will just write my name and drivers license number on the back of it then. None of my materials had the DPS no. field filled in, which I believe was for that reason.joe817 wrote:You received an application number IF you applied on line. Not having an application number does not sound right at all. I hope an instructor sees this.

You have an older photo card holder. It has recently changed, but if they sent it in the package, you can still use it.
If you got the photo card holder by applying online, then you have an application number. Look at the page that has all your info on it. In the top right hand corner is an eight digit number ending in "L" The number is your application number. Leave off the "L". That just designates that it is an online application.
If you just requested a package, but did NOT fill out an online application, then you will NOT have an application number and you can leave that section blank.
Fill it out with a BLACK felt tip pen, or a really good black ink pen. They will reject anything else. Make sure you AND your fingerprinter both sign the back of the photo before you stick it in the holder and tape it down. Sign your normal signature on the line under the photo.
Better yet, if your CHL class is a one-stop shop, don't fill out any paperwork until you get there. Let your instructor guide you through it."

Re: quick questions regarding dispositions
I didn't know that DPS changed that aspect. The application forms that instructors distributed in class used to have a unique serial number printed on them.
It seems like having people who take a class without registering online have a risk of the various bits and pieces of their application becoming separated. I envision the DPS CHL bureau as having application envelopes stacked from floor to ceiling and loose paper everywhere.
