I like to show off my Armed Forces Retired ID Card, so I use that as a second form of ID. I imagine if I was feeling obnoxious I would show the CHL.

It's in an old thread, but I used my CHL as my sole ID to vote one time. :coolgleamA:

(In a school AND a polling place. Not carrying. I was volunteering at the school for crowd control and did it when there was no crowd. The CHL contains the TDL #, so they were happy to take it. The bar code didn't scan, of course, so they had to type it in.)

It helps to speed you through the background check.
:iagree:
Yep, faster and less of a pain. Plus the seller seems to relax slightly, as your chances of being kicked out drop to defacto 0 on the background portion.

Technically there is no background check. You just fill out the form.

Exactly, although my "what about" mind could see a theoretical chance of a problem. Me and Murphy have always been fast friends. :cryin
As noted I'd prefer not to show the CHL as its advertising the fact. I don't want to do that. I don't want to have a discussion about it. I don't know who else is listening. Outside of a firearms store I don't want to have a sudden discussion over the merits of CHLs and firearms in general. Likely if I am having to show ID I don't want to be there in the first place. :grumble

The potential problem is probably that of an inexperience/untrained clerk making a brouhaha (whatever that is) about needing a background check when you really don't. I have seen that happen.

They have started requesting a form of federal ID from the TSA known at a TWIC card (Transportation Workers Identification Credential). While I'm not even remotely related to the transportation industry, this TWIC card has evolved into other arenas for use as ID. With this ID, I am able to go throughout a refinery un-escorted. Now, I'm not suggesting that anyone just go out and apply for this ID, although you could, but it does cost $132.50 for applying. My current one is good through 2014.
In order to qualify for a TWIC, you have to require in excess of 90 days access to an MTSA regulated facility as a part of your employment. There is a portion of the application which specifically asks this question and if you do not require access to a regulated facility, you can be denied a TWIC....and lose your $132.50. Also, if you lie on the app, you are in big trouble. A TWIC card is NOT a valid form of ID for the general public.

Oh..and if the airport you are flying into/out of is run by a port authority - your TWIC is good. I have used mine in many an airport with no problem.

How do I know? Work for a port authority and deal with TWIC's and MTSA regs daily.....

I've used my CHL as a second form of ID. In fact, I used it as a first form of ID, when I gave the bank teller the CHL rather than DL by mistake one time. Not a word was said about it.

No.
It's also not illegal to tell them that it's none of their business, however politely you may choose to phrase it. (Though they will probably interpret that to mean you are carrying.) I'd just tell them to assume everyone is carrying.

I like to make complicated answers (it is just my nature), and would probably explain that Texas law does not require me to divulge that info to anyone except an LEO or a Magistrate and smile (I don't smile alot).

The sheeple dont notice anything anyway, and its none of the sheeples business whether you are carrying or not. If i had to have two forms of ID I would probably show it, but so far I have not had to show two forms of ID.

Lie to a NON-LEO? ... It would be illegal ONLY if you had been sworn in to tell the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth, so help you God, before you answered. So, unless you are sworn in under oath, being depoosed in a deposition or on a witness stand in a Court at the time ..... nah, say anything you want to.

But I don't like to lie, so I may just not hear the question. .... or I could LOUDLY reply "Darn I left my hearing aid at home, sorry. I should have worn that hearing protection all those times at the range" (just kidding) No speak englesh, speekie Klingon?

Seriously I'd probably answer their question with a question. Why would you ask a question like that? and if they say "I"m just curious" I'd say OK ...... and not answer the original question or ...... if they say "because you have a Concealed Handgun License," I'd reply, You are looking at my Driver's License too, but I'm not in my car right now am I?

I don;t feel compelled to answer questions I don't need to answer. But, I wouldn't use my CHL as an "ID" in the first place, maybe a utility bill for proof of residence and a Driver's license for a picture ID.... or maybe order me a "certificate of live birth" from the State of Hawaii.
