Gun VS Knife..

So i see people always carry a knife and a gun for their daily carry...is it much better to use a knife then a gun in self-denfense? i wonder will there be more LAW troubles using a gun to "STOP" attacker in self-defense then using a knife to "STOP" the attacker? which could cost more troubles since u are going to "STOP" the attacker? Or will the answer be the same since u still injury the attacker? thank you. it would be very helpful to me! thanks

I can only speak for myself, (and I'm sure there will be many others chiming in soon) but I can tell you that while I do carry a knife it's purpose is certainly not for defending myself.
For one thing I'm no expert in knife fighting.

Knife combat would mean putting yourself way too close to the person attempting to harm you.

I carry my knife for the more mundane neccesities in life, like opening packages or cutting string. I have used it a few times (3 times in 10 years mabey) to cut people out of jammed seatbelts after they have been in a car wreck.

I have noticed that the day I forget my knife is the day I really need it.

But I'll leave the knife fighting for Chuck Norris or those guys from Westside Story - I don't sing very well either .

The difference between the loser and the winner in a knife fight is that the loser dies there at the scene while the winner dies later in the hospital.

Same here. I actually carry 2 knives every day . One on each side . That way , either hand can have easy access.

The gun(s) I carry will always be the first choice , but I like to be as prepared as possible .
As a side note , I always have a small powerful flashlight as well as a cellphone at all times.

In my opinion, many people who carry guns (legally) will also carry a knife. Same thing with other tools, i.e. the type of person who carries a first aid kit in their car probably has jumper cables as well. Fits the analogy of "if all you have is a hammer then everything looks like a nail".

This usually does not apply to those who carry illegally, because they are not carrying the tool for its intended purpose, i.e. the mindset of someone carrying a sharpened screwdriver (for offensive purposes) is much different from someone carrying a multi-tool (to fix broken things).

My jaded perception is that only BGs use knives. My opinion might be different if Texas had a CCW permit. I don't carry one, because I haven't purchased one that I like. IANAL and I don't sing nearly as well as mctowalot.

I have always carried a knife, I could not picture myself without one. My intentions have always been for daily use and a last line of defense.

There are many places where it's legal to carry a knife but not a handgun. It's best to avoid those places but when I can't a knife is better than nothing.

It's also handy for opening the mail.

At our family Christmas gatherings , when someone is trying to open a gift and says.."Does anyone have a knife ? "

The blades come flying out . Its almost like a race to see who can get it out the quickest.

I'm sorry to "hear" your also vocally challenged wildbill. When I try to sing to my infant she cocks her head like the RCA dog before covering her ears .

However, I've just realized that I was born with a natural defense system.

Should I be attacked while unarmed I shall start singing showtunes (I'll have to learn some first) or perhaps some Bob Wills. That should send the BGs running.

On a serious "note", I picked up a folding Kbar that I really like. It's just shy of 3 inches long, but the highest point measures almost an 1 & 1/2 inches. It's rather imposing for a letter opener though. I'm probably compensating for my lousy singing .
